How do you manage the difficulty that new health professionals openly express with the number of medications that you take? Some are reactive and negative, while others are more understanding and validating. I need an elevator speech for when I'm caught caught off guard by these autoimmune amateurs.
I agree. I have so many meds its ridiculous. When one doctor questions why I tell them its because each doctor I'm under treats a different organ system and each system requires different drugs. I wish they could creates one thing for all issues.
I hear you on this topic loud and clear... I have "friends" that literally have said, you need to get off of all that shit and then you'll feel better and have never grasped the understanding that without them, my pain levels are so off the charts, I can't function... I guess they go along with the suck it up buttercup way of thinking. Look, I don't WANT to have to take these meds!!! I am on 7 different medications for my pain, depression and anxiety alone not to mention the others I have to take for other issues that have come up over the years. Anyone who questions me like that, I simply say, "Look, I take what I need when I need it. If you don't suffer with chronic debilitating pain, and have not walked a mile in my shoes, you have nowhere to judge or ask me to justify my treatment". It sounds rude and I try to be nice when I say it (and I don't say it often, thank God), but sometimes I get really annoyed by it. If there was another way to rid my body of this horrible pain, don't they think I would do it? I don't need the side effects, the damage and the stigma that comes with all these narcotics. I just had pain management this morning and there was someone in the waiting room that was actually on MORE pain medication than me and about half my size!!! We all have to do what we have to do to get by. Live and let live. I hope you all have a peaceful and less painful day.
