A few changes for surgery

Feb 05, 2020 8:06 PM

I saw the surgeon todaywho will do the total hip replacement the 18th. After going over the pain increase & changes the past 2 weeks he told me to stop my preop exercises, and to stay on the tramadol & increased gabapentin until surgery. He's also changing me from outpatient to inpatient status, and will hopefully get approval for inpatient rehab. He believes, get this, my connective tissue disease is the cause of the. Increased pain & that it's going to cause complications for recovery that most people dont have to deal with; and it will be a longer recovery. Well, I appreciate his honesty & not sugar coating the expectations. He is going to do the norco patch for 2-4 weeks postop & then transition to dilaudid, or tramadol if I'm able. I'll just be glad when im on the recovery side of this. πŸ™‚πŸ’žβ€πŸ™πŸŒ·

Hi flappy hug and gl with everythingShore I’ll be praying πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™πŸŒˆβ€οΈ

Feb 06, 2020 8:25 PM

Stay strong and positive through this. I will keep you in my Prayers.

Feb 06, 2020 10:31 PM

I’m glad he’s making you β€œin patient” status. You can’t do this at home. You really need the structured everyday assistance. Wow he actually recognized your connective tissue disorder. Kudos to him. Maybe with no PT in the way for now and more pain and nerve pain meds it might calm it down some before the surgery. I’ll continue praying for you. It will be a hard recovery for you but I have faith in you that you can do it. Take care and keep warm down there. Any snow for you? I’m gonna get 3” of snow and ice tonight. That’s very little here in PA. We’re use to much more ( no complaints here) lol. Get rested up now. You will need that strength later on. Take Care my friend.

You take care to Shore. Hope all is going well with you. You enjoying your new recliner?

For everyone out there that is suffering, know that you are in my prayers nightly. I know first hand what it feels like. Having a bad night... oh well.πŸ™πŸ˜’πŸ€—πŸ˜˜πŸ¦‹πŸ’•πŸŒΈ

Feb 06, 2020 11:13 PM

Hi there ty Pain Warrior tonight I’m just feeling a little off some how not sure why yet...
I’ll figure it out later when I go to bed soon lol .
Yes I really love my new recliner))))...
Hi to all and Animal Lover .. πŸ™πŸŒˆπŸŒˆπŸ€—πŸ€—β€οΈShore have a nuce week end come up )))))

Feb 07, 2020 11:24 AM

Take care Shore. Enjoy your upcoming weekend !😊 we have 5” or better of snow here in PA ( west central) Stay warm where your at. 🌸

Feb 07, 2020 9:02 PM

Thank you Blessed1! Shore, somehow I missed about your new recliner... or maybe its lost in my fibro fog! Lol. I'm glad you're enjoying it. My queen adjustable bed is very much a blessing I didnt know would make getting in & out of bed easier. I'd recommend one for every one here.

I mentioned it on my other post, but I got bad news today; my hospital blood labs came back with abnormally high inflammation markers, and I'm to see an infectious disease specialist next week. It may bring my pre-op steps to a screeching halt & delay my surgery. I'm not sure what they saw or why I'm to see IDS doc instead of my normal rheumatologist, but I'm definitely worried now. My cray last May showed a 90-95% normal hip socket joint, but in December it looked like hills & valleys eating up the edges all over it; definitely abnormally fast erosion. I couldn't help wondering if it's some type of bone cancer; my Dad's family is eat up with multiple types. I dont have it in me to go through chemo or radiation treatments. But that's hopefully my brain running away with worse case scenarios. I only finished up the doxycycline, amoxicillin, pseudoephedrine, mucinex, benadryl & extra tylenol for the bronchitis & sinusitis (me & 5 family members caught at my sister's funeral last month), just about 7-10 days ago. Maybe that's why my levels are abnormal. I just wish I didnt have to wait through the weekend to find out. Hugs love & prayers for all of us to have a peaceful relaxing weekend!πŸ™‚πŸ’žβ€πŸ™πŸŒ·

Operation Jan 22 2020 on spine was extensive and Just had 7 day 24hr a day of the worst pain 10+ I writhed in pain because doctors a avoiding opioids
Which work well on me for 9 years without any cravings for them at all just for pain but that doesn't matter because druggies kept chasing some high I never got till they slept forever and family needed to blame someone or something for their loved ones obsessive compulsive disorder death by opioids. It so hard but there was a light at the end of the tunnel and Im still chasing it. Rehab was tough first few days till they controlled the pain to a scale of 7,8,9. Which was bearable. We can do this. Women are strong where many man are weak. Chase the light and really try hard do get better. My multiple sclerosis was my complication which made the nerves go nuts and my skin was untouchable but of course that just not possible so it sucked but sleep all you can to make it go faster. I wish you the best and hope all goes well and pain is bearable. Keep looking for that light at the end. Best wishes.
Donna

Feb 08, 2020 8:33 AM

FlappysLady81 I'm sorry you're going through these additional complications. I'll be praying that there is nothing seriously wrong and you will have your surgery on the 18th. Shore I'm glad you like your recliner. Gentle (((hugs))) everyone

Feb 08, 2020 10:06 AM

Ty Animal Lover hug also ShoreπŸ™πŸŒˆπŸŒˆβ€οΈ

Feb 08, 2020 10:02 PM

Shore, ask your doctor if you could try muscle relaxers for the leg spasms at bedtime. It's helped with my restless legs & night spasms. Unfortunately the fatigue is a daily part of fibro. I wish your sister well on her duet. And I hope you enjoy the choir tomorrow too. Thanks for your support and prayers.

LaDonna, I'm sorry you've had to go through that with the lack of pain control options. You're right about women being stronger...otherwise men could have babies. My hubby couldn't deal withhalf of what I go through daily, and he acknowledged it. I hope things get easier for you as time moves forward! Sending gentle hugs!! And thanks for the support & encouraging words.

AnimalLover2, thank you fo the prayers. I told Pain warrior on another post that she was the 2nd person to tell me this new issue may be a blessing in disguise. If I have some internal infection, better to find out now & treat it than for them to open me up for surgery & cause more complications. As frustrating and tired & in pain that I am, I'd rather be safe than sorry. I'm hoping the elevated markers are justfrom the meds I was on for 2+ weeks fighting the bronchitis & sinusitis.

Hugs love & prayers that all of you will have a good night tonight! πŸ€—πŸ’žπŸ™πŸŒ·

Feb 10, 2020 9:42 PM

Update: I went for my pre-OP clearances by my pcp and the infectious disease specialist in the same office today. Most of yall already know some of the history with my pcp...not good. Theres a bad history between him and us & my plan was to jump ship but when they told me I needed surgery, I knew I didnt have time to get in with a new doctor. πŸ˜’My hubby could be dead because he missed cancer due to his own "I'm the so smart doctor πŸ‘¨β€πŸ’»who learns everything by reading case studies!" (He learns everything on the internet 🀣).
Just ask him, or better yet wait 2 minutes, no 2 seconds, and he'll bring up another case study that's the new "miracle" for treating patients. And he knows this through zero experience! Grrr...he frustrates the heck out of me.😑

He asked me about my gabapentin dosage today and I explained I'm only taking 400-600 mg a day, because I'm super sensitive to meds and taking more oversedates me. πŸ₯΄πŸ€ͺ He went into his spill about reading (another) case study, "and the new study suggests we've not been giving enough gabapentin to help our patients maintain pain levels. The new study suggests 3800 mg a day (yes he said 3800 mg!). You arent on nearly enough and we need to increase your's so you are taking that amount." I looked at him and said, "And if I do that, I will be among the fatal statistics 😱 due to my being overly sensitive to medications. I take after both my parents genetically who were oversensitive πŸ₯΄πŸ€ͺto meds." My hubby cut his eyes from me to the doc & back again, because as I was trying to explain what happens when I take more than 600 mg a day, the "know it all doc" butted in (again cutting me off, not listening) and repeated we need to increase my meds, & I repeated "I'll be a fatal overdosed statistic."☠ OMG!! 🀯 Then he makes me get up on the exam table, and me hardly able to bare any weight on the left leg. As he's checking one thing then another, saying my heart, lungs, & tummy sounds good, he starts moving and bending the right leg all over the place πŸ₯¨. Before he could even touch my left one I told him straight up, "If you try moving this leg like that you will get hit!" πŸ’ͺπŸ‘ŠπŸ’₯πŸ’«He heard me that time because he froze with his hands in mid-air, looked at me and gently πŸ˜‡ said, "why don't you show me how you can move it." When he saw I couldn't bend it or lift it off the table he said, "Yes you need surgery right away." Nah, genius! He goes to help me off the table (hubby can't because he's postop hernia surgery) & the idiot nearly let me fall! πŸ˜–

As we're walking out of the exam room I asked if I was being taken to another exam room to be seen by the infectious disease specialist. He turns and looks at us (& we could almost see his chest puff out... neanderthal "me big doc here"😷) and replied, "No. I already spoke to that doctor and we reviewed your labs from the hospital. I'm going to redo them today and share the results with him later." Then he walks us to the lab, and both my hubby & I are thinking " Really? πŸ€” The hospital & surgeon wanted me seen by an infectious disease specialist for a reason. Stupid big head doc...he's a moron! 🀨

So as I'm sitting there having my blood drawn a young lady comes and asks me to follow her when I'm done. She said, "I'm not sure why there was miscommunication πŸ™ˆπŸ™‰πŸ™Š but your surgeon specifically wants you seen by the infectious disease doctor, so I'm taking you to his exam room." Yay!!! Someone knew their job & did it! πŸ€— The new doc (never met) came in & shook both our hands introducing himself. He was young & very wise about his field (we learned from the discussion). 😏 In a nutshell he explained that under normal circumstances, with a normal patient, my labs would have been a red flag warning 🚩something major was going on. (My lab values were just over the top range of normal on multiple inflammation markers). He said, "You however are not the normal average patient. πŸ™ƒYou have many intermingling, overlapping autoimmune issues going on, such as your sjogrens, fibromyalgia, hypothyroidism, and your (mixed...yay, someone specified the type of CTD I haveπŸ‘πŸ‘ ) connective tissue disease, just to name a few. You are a complicated patient πŸ™„ and any one of these issues could be the cause of your elevated labs, as could the recent bacterial & viral upper respiratory sickness πŸ€’ you just got over. I'm positive you do not have a bone infection going on, because if you did your labs would be off the charts. I see no reason not to clear you for surgery, but we will wait for the labs to return, just in case." I think he was being polite towards my oh so rude 🧐 know it all pcp. πŸ€£πŸ˜ŒπŸ˜„πŸ€£

Wow, a nice, caring, and educated doctor. Too bad he can't be my pcp!😢 Needless to say after finding out neither doctor wants to see me, except as needed... I just saw that pcp for the last time! 😌 I'm scheduling a new pcp doc full exam for 2 months out, tomorrow as soon as offices open up! 😁 β›΅

Hugs love & prayers everyone has a good night 😴and a better tomorrow🌞

Oh darn I was trying to add a hip hip horray emoji but it wouldn’t let me. I’m proud of you. Man I would of let that doctor touch your left leg only to get a foot up his asz oops ...( head) Lol πŸ˜‚ A real piece of work that one is. Wasn’t even interested in listening to you about your sensitivity to meds. Crazy 😜
So very glad you got to see the infection specialist. He sounds pretty competent. Glad to hear you don’t have a bone infection. Maybe it was your sinusitis etc that caused it after all. ??
So now your cleared for your surgery! Of course you have to wait for your labs πŸ§ͺ to return yet.
Glad to hear your good news. 🎈 πŸŽ‰ You sound relieved 😌 ( as you should be) and chipper 🐦 . I’m happy 😊 for you. Now you can concentrate on your surgery and recouperation. Take care and God Bless you my friend. Did you get snow ❄️ where you were? We ended up with 7” but it’s just about gone now. I’m gonna be one ☝️ cranky ole lady tomorrow. Gotta drink my prep for my colonoscopy for Wednesday YUK! Gonna be wearing out the carpet to the Bathroom 🚽 sorry for the graphics 😝. Take care my southern peach πŸ‘! So glad FlappysLady81 the good news and you can have your surgery. Sorry you had to deal with that Azz. I'll be praying for your surgery.

Feb 11, 2020 7:28 PM

Yes I'm very relieved. Thank you both for prayers! I keep being told hip replacement is much easier to recover from than knee replacement. I sure hope so. I've been wondering about getting a compression brace to wear on my upper thigh, to help support the weak muscles.

We did not get snow here, but there was some in the northern third of GA I think. Its actually been pleasant in the mid 60s to low 70s, my kind of temps. But the rain can stop anytime now. Try to stay warm up there in your icebox weather...brrrr! πŸ₯ΆπŸ§£πŸ§€πŸ§₯πŸ§¦β˜•

Hey Shore, I hope your headache is gone. I use to love snow & cold weather, but over the past 10 years cold weather has not been a friend to my body's joints or muscles. I haven't slept well all week, but I have nowhere to go tomorrow, so if I need to I can sleep late.

Hugs love & prayers everyone has a good night! πŸ™‚πŸ’žβ€πŸ™πŸŒ·

Feb 13, 2020 6:06 PM

Shore, if I can ask I forgot if you told me but where are you from. I’m from Pa ( USA) having some snow tonight. Yuk . Rough when it snows . Hope your having a good day. 🌸

Feb 13, 2020 7:45 PM

Total clearance from all my doctors, so headed to surgery on Tuesday. But I won't be able to go with my oldest sister on Wednesday to get the results to her breast biopsy; doctor is 80-90% certain it's malignant. πŸ˜ͺπŸ™ Timing couldn't be worse.

Feb 14, 2020 12:51 AM

I’m so sorry😒 I’ll continue to lift not only you but all of your family up in prayer. Your both in Gods healing hands that’s the best place to be. My πŸ’œ goes out to you. Gentle {{πŸ€—}} my friend. πŸŒΈπŸ¦‹
