A ketogenic diet and earthing

Feb 27, 2017 10:52 PM

So my naturopath today suggested that I start a modified ketogenic diet. Not hard core like it is when you look it up but she wants me to consume 2000 cal a day; 55% fat 30% protein 15% carbs. It's going to be hard as I'm a carbavore and struggle to consume fat (i hate the texture and taste of meat fat and skin). And i can't have dairy or eggs and am limited on nuts stop that's going to make this harder.
She also told me to look up something called earthing. She thinks it might help with everything overall. According to the web page it is a type of actual physical grounding using grounding mats and silver lined blankets and sheets. You have to have bare skin on the items and they have to be grounded either to outside or the ground plug in an outlet. It's expensive. The website also suggests walking on the earth in bare feet and swimming in the ocean to ground. I have one foot that has a patch that has different sensation that is highly noticeable in bare feet and my feet get stupid cold so i always am wearing something. And im not sure about walking around bare foot after the neighbour stepped on a sewing needle while in her yard barefoot and she couldn't get it out and it worked it's way through her foot.
Does anyone have any experience with either of these? Any hints or tips?

Earthing is great, like a connected meditation process. I try to do it when im out in the woods if i can. But if i cant, i find that touching with my hands (like a tree or the ground itself) or just plopping down on tge ground works. Bare is good, but not necessary in my opinion. Its mostly the visulization.
As for the keto, i personally havent tried it (high sodium screws with me...i have Menieres) but my sister and her husband swear by it.

Hi ... I tried the earthing mat in bed a couple of years back ... Didn't notice a change but I also found I was restless sleeper and the Matt would move. I don't remember if I used it while sitting...

I can see if I have the earthing stuff kicking around if you like.

I'll have to google the diet ... Sounds like alot of planning.
What about coconut oil? That can be added to quite a bit of stuff. Unfortunately most awesome recipes I have that are high in coconut oil are deserts. Natural sugars but I think I remember you are sugar free.

I wouldn't bother looking for the stuff.
I'm restless too and im sure if i got a mat it would end up on the floor somehow in the middle of the night. I've somehow lost my pillow and found it on the floor at the foot of the bed more than once.
This diet is going to be hard. I'm egg free, dairy free, sugar free and I very much dislike coconut everything. The sweetener i can have is honey, which isn't allowed as its high carb. Dairy and eggs are main components in the keto diet as both are high fat and high protein. I guess that's why she said modified.

There's a book. Which also said you just need to put your feet on the earth for a certain amount a time a day ... Including concrete floors I think... Struggling to remember.

That diet sounds tricky ... Worse than giving up nightshades. Which I haven't tried yet.

Take care.

If you don't like the taste/smell of coconut, you can use refined coconut oil. It has all the fat, but without the coconut taste. Grounding, for me, is almost entirely about the visualization process. It really is a form of meditation, although having the earth itself is extremely helpful, if this is difficult, a piece of the earth will work as well. For me this means crystals (moss agate is a particular favorite, and significantly cheaper than anything involving silver), but honestly anything connected to the earth will do as long as you connect to it too.

Well considering i had cookies, pasta and potatoes this isn't too bad. Modified means I'm not doing the 20 carb max a day. I officially start on Monday. Until then I'm going to slowly transition and try to eat the carbs i got so i don't have to throw things away.
