Accupuncture advice

Feb 23, 2016 12:19 PM

I have Ankylosing Spondylitis and I get horrible spasms in my neck and back. I have had accupuncture before but once certain needles are put in I would feel very nauseous. Has this happened to anyone else?

I am willing to try again but I wanted to get some advice on whether to get accupuncture chute from a physiotherapist or someone who practices Chinese medicine. I know both approaches are different so I wanted to find out how people have reacted to them.

Any advice or input is greatly appreciated!!

I get it from my physio. But I've never been nauseous from it. I want to get traditional done as well.
I like the points at the base of the skull by my spine. I find they help with my headaches the most
Sorry i can't help

I had acupuncture after an operation on my jaw when it dislocated. I also get bother with my shoulders and neck most of the time and it did wonders for me! I didn't believe in it at first .. But after a few sessions it certainly did help me

Summerisbest did you get this done by a physiotherapist or was it Chinese medicine based?

I did go to physiotherapy seperately but the acupuncture was Chinese medicine based

I get a back and neck adjustment then my chiropractor does acupuncture on me. For me it is for overall wellbeing, circulation, decrease pain. At this point I am down to once a week. I think it has helped me tremendously with getting me out of a flare, settle my body and help increase my movement majorly, also increased a feeling of calmness. I think his is Chinese based. The needles go into top of head, upper back, neck, base of head, base of thumbs, lower back and spine, ankles.
I usually feel a euphoria, very refreshed, sometimes a short bout freeness, lite, overcome by emotions. I am use to meditation very much same feeling for me.
I have never felt nausea. I know in the past I was in a group that I did do many rounds of treatment at a clinic. Some people reacted in different ways. Falling asleep, pain at needled sight, faint. It was for anxiety. 5 needles into both ears. I did not have the same experience or outcome. My Physio did it to me three time for fibro and head, shoulder, neck pain. When she did massage then acupuncture it was great, but the other way acupuncture then massage turned out nasty.
I understand it is important to eat before, no caffeine before and right after treatment, be well hydrated. I thought I had nothing to loose by trying it. I am glad that it has helped me this last time.
Always, always make sure they are using new needles. Beets.

Beets,

Thanks so much for sharing your experience and advice! I am looking forward to trying accupuncture again. Hoping I can get some of the same results.
