Hey, I’m a teenager suffering with fibromyalgia, any advice on coping with pain ? I’ve played sport all my life and unfortunately haven’t been able to play for a whole year and still cannot now due to physically not being able to (restricted movement ) and the pain, it’s constant and I’m not coping well at all. Ive never felt anything like it. And I’m very injury prone ! However this is incredibly different. A pain I wouldn’t ever wish upon anyone yet would just wish people understood.
I am a certified pain expert and I can tell you this: to start off, im sure you know this to a certain extent, but pain is very complex and often requires several approches when it comes to management. In short, I recommend these following steps: 1) buy this book: "explain pain" by lorimer mosely and david butler 2) physical activity that works for YOU: if weights causes too much grief, well try something lighter for a while such as hiking, swimming, elipse machine and set a plan. Do some form of physical activity every day that works for you and steadily increase intensity as you see fit. Set goals. Be consist. 3) meditation works. Downlsod headspace. Be consist here as well 4) minimum 8 hours sleep 5) have a balanced diet. 6) surround yourself with people that lifts you up 7) be patient. Its not easy. It's a journey.
