Alpha Lipoic Acid for nerve pain

Mar 06, 2017 10:12 AM

My rheumatologist suggested I try this for the nerve pain I have. She said it takes 3 to 5 weeks to notice a change. So I found this on Amazon. I am taking this twice a day. While it hasn't eliminated the pain it has greatly reduced it.

My pain consisted of feeling like I had walked into a spider web. (for those with migraines this can also be a pre-curser to an onset of migraines. ) I had what felt like an electrical current shooting through my head or down my back. And I get what feels like a electrical current (not the sharp shooting one but just tingly) that runs from neck and travels down left arm.

So I am hoping this continues to help. (so far the only sensation I am still getting is the tingling down arm..)

Here is what medMD has to say about this:

So thought I would share as a simple FYI (for your information)

So on that theory this should help my TN pain and the pins and needles in my left arm and some of the pain in my neck and shoulders.....I'll research it and find what it does and how it helps.

Thank Melanie x

Do you also take pain meds or rx meds or only natural @Mimikay

Keep us posted. I've heard of Lipoic acid before but can't remember what. If it works I might Dutch the gabapentin and try it instead. Hugs love & prayers for good results! 🙂💕🙏🌸

Mimi kay, I have noticed the same feeling laying in bed at night and waking up every 30 minutes on those nights when pain is bad and I don't have my pain medication (thank god that hasn't been the case the last couple of months). I think it is the nerve damage from the screw inserted in my right foot plus the tarsal tunnel a foot doctor once said I have. I see that a bone spur is really bothering me but nothing talked about with my doctor about it yet. I found a video on YouTube that was uplifting/inspirational self sleep hypnosis and that with 50 mg dyphadromomine was a blessing for me one night when I had NO sleep the night before. I also use 100% pepermint oil to relax me those stressful nights and when my allergies are acting up❤ prayers for you tonight ❤

I have been taking ubiquinol just a cleaner more easily recognized form od Co-Q10 makes a massive difference with my nerve pain. Also anyone taking a statin for cholesterol should take this because it will help and most often eliminate muscle aches from the statins. It is a shame doctors do not share this information. I cannot take Lyrica or Gabapentin for nerve pain they make my whole body jerk. Sorry the picture is skewed I could not rotate it after I posted it. Oops!

I cannot or will not take lyrica eigther! I always have to read the side effects first! My Oxycodone is all I need for pain but any vitamin or health suppliment is a good idea!

I take Percocet for pain and a muscle relaxer.
