ankylosing spondylitis and eyes ugh

Feb 13, 2015 5:02 AM

Hello. I have AS and on Remicade which has helped my SI joints but my eyes continue to be the issue. First chronic iritis in both eyes for about 18 months and now dealing with severe dry eyes. Not fun and on drops and symptoms are about the same with iritis verses dry eyes 😔

I had to have a contact lens check up this week and told the optician I had dryness in my right eye , he asked if I had any medical conditions , I told him Crohn's and rheumatoid arthritis , he said that'll be why then , the RA :( . But didn't give me anything for it .

do you already have a sjogrens diagnosis? sounds like it- sjogrens is a diagnosis that usually goes along with another autoimmune disease-and is usually treated the way most are
ask your eye doctor or rheumatologist if you also have sjogrens-
i have it and daily rx restasis drops help, warm eye compresses two times a day, pilocarpine medication from the rheumatologist , and using lubricating eye drops.
if this stil doesnt help enough- hyou can get your eyes punctal plugs sealed( its an office visit- not painful) and this keeps your eyes moist

I've been told I have Sjogrens and my blood panels for the Sjogrens...B is always high. I'm being sent to a rheumatologist next week because of that blood level and inflammation in blood levels. When my eyes get really dry it hurts to even blink. So I'm using Refresh eyedrops along with Theratears Gel at night.

I'm wondering about sjogrens but dont have a really dry mouth but this stuff sucks. Using restasis and steroid drops as well as Refreshe drops and it's getting old. Ugh thanks all and have a good day 😊 😯 💜
