Anybody with Fibromyalgia use a walking stick or crutch for support?

Mar 13, 2017 6:33 PM

I have trouble staying upright when the pain gets really bad. Walking becomes a major task and I'm terrified of falling over because I know I'd never be able to get up again without help. Using a stick feels rather extreme though because my legs are "fine" and the extra attention will just make me even more nervous about being outdoors. Vanity vs practicality?

You do you!
If it keeps you safe do it!

I use a cane just in case. Did you know they are training great Danes as companions for people who have this issue. To help with balance.

I've thought about it a time or two for when I get really bad. Now that I know about Great Dane helpers, I want one! (Must be good with kitty cats!)

I bought an electric mobility device when I was still working. I now am retired but use it when I go on vacation because I can't make it through a full day of running around. It is a blessing to have...without It, I would've had to miss so much. I even took it on the plane to Cancun.

I interchange my cane and rollator walker as needed, and I ride store e-carts

I used to use a cane for balance mostly but my wrists, elbows and shoulders won't let me use it any more because the pain when I lean on it is horrible. I've managed to stay upright (walking) most of the time. Sometimes I fall over on my face.. LOL!! I know it's not funny but if you can't laugh at yourself... at any rate, if it helps you, who gives a shit what anyone else thinks? Are THEY walking around with the issues you are having?? Hang in there and do what's best for you. Sending well wishes, positive vibes and healing {{{Hugs}}} your way🤗💕

I have a cane and I use it when I leave my house. I get very bad muscle spasms and they cause me to loose control of my legs. They just buckle.

I also have an electric scooter. I used it on my NYC trip. It was a life saver but I can not lift the pieces to take apart and back together. I am going to have to get a carrier for my car.

I have started thinking about using a cane for support. The pain is getting worse. However, recently the pain in my hands and arms will not allow me to use one. This is all new to me. Still trying to accept the reality that my life is not what it used to be.

Thanks everyone! Each day, it becomes more obvious that I'll have to get a cane, but I don't know how my hands/arms will support me. Saw some with elbow support, maybe I'll take a look at those. Love and light to you all 🤗

I was thinking about this again and maybe it's not such a good idea. I'd probably be way too tempted to wack people who tick me off!

Hehehe... amccallister. That's an idea, dual-purpose cane!

I have a cane that doubles as a seat. Best thing my husband got me recently. I haven't used it on him yet, so I'm good!

Lol! Farmwife1972, you won't be getting any more presents from him if you're going to attack him with them 😋
