Anyone like me?

Jan 14, 2017 12:31 PM

I'm new here and I am looking for someone who is experiencing the same as me. I have a severe L1S5 disc extrusion to the right. My pain involves my lower back, tail bone and right leg. I have numbness to my right leg and also it hurts to put my chin to my chest--causes pain in lower back.

I have had injections that helped for about 4 months in which just this past week the pain returned. I can tolerate my pain if I don't sit or stand in one place. Meaning, if I walk, I can tolerate the pain. Someone MUST have similar problems and I'm dying to talk to someone like me.

Hi MapleTree and welcome to the crazy family. Everyone here is very supportive, friendly and non judgemental.
Everyone also lives across the globe so people will answer in their time zone altho some of some like myself suffer from painsomnia so we answer at odd times whenever we're awake!!!
I'm sorry I can't help with advice as I don't suffer with back pain like you do, my battle is with trigeminal neuralgia and my GP is finally looking at fibromialga.

I'm sending you positive vibes and warm healing hugs xx

I've had 3 lumbar surgeries which included the L4/5-S1 spaces. I have pain in both legs, most of whch was on the left side. I have lots of nerve damage as well as ankylosing spondylitis. I'm sorry you are having to go through this and if there's anything I can do to help, I'm happy to do so.

Maple, I havent been on here for a while but I have Tarlov cysts and they form on your nerve root . Symptoms are tailbone burns or hurts, various pains and sensations down the legs . Also a nother part of this disease is the nervers in the cord start clumping. Look up Tarlov and Arachnoiditis.

I have permanent damage at L5/S1 along with MS. At this point it's just trying to avoid a wheel chair for as long as i can. The chin to the chest pain could just be tight muscles from bad posture, tends to happen when your low back is shot. I was also diagnosed with cysts asking my lumbar and thoracic spine, wish i could give u all a miracle cure answer but it takes strong pain meds just for me to get out of bed. I am severely limited in what i can and can't do now. Stairs are my nemesis

Thanks everyone for responding. It's nice to know someone reads my problems and relates in one way or another.

I also get trigeminal neuralgia. Luckily only a few onsets a year as it is miserable. I feel for anyone who has it reoccurring.

Zetarlov....I just looked up tarlov. I am amazed (probably wrong word choice). I have a high number of specific symptoms and have been diagnosed with sjogren's. So thanks for your insight and I will have my MD have my MRI looked at again. Thanks so much!!!

Maple, a warning! Most doctors will tell you to ignore it. They were taught in school that they are non-symptomatic. Only the new ones fresh out of med school have been taught that they do cause problems. The lastest text books will be written by only 4 doc out there. And those chapters that are revised since about 2002 to 2010. Please look up the Ara, also. Good luck. I know of aprox. 1200 people who have them, or correctly put that know they have them.

Oops. My cat just made me hit post! Wasn't done yet unfortunately. Also had joint replacement surgery on my right toe last Feb which was done incorrectly so hurts more than before and for which I'm going to have to get corrective surgery soon. Aaack! Ya, the pain just woke me up. No pain meds at night. I'm somehow supposed to be able to sleep through it. Right! I haven't slept in months. My skeleton is disintegrating...it takes meds and an act of god to let me function during the day. And, of course, I am also blessed with a multitude of mental illnesses. Although that's mostly controlled by meds these days which is mostly controlled by meds these days...except the depression which had made me have suicidal ideations for at least 6 months now. Sometimes the pain is too much and sometimes it's other shit, but it's always there. So yes, I feel your pain. Looking forward to at least 4 surgeries this year. Whee!!

DL Wolf....I do not have as much on my plate as you, but I've have delt with some other boogers too. I think, for me, it helps finding someone else going through some of the same things as me. I was just telling my husband about this app last night. He does give every effort in understanding but will admit he can't fully understand bc he doesn't know what I feel. So, talk to all of us when I r down. I lost my best friend to suicide 15 years ago. She was 23. That's not the way out. Allow this to make you strong. Believe me. You are handling things that others can't. Keep it up!!!

Zetarlov....I had already assumed it would be a hard diagnosis to pass by my doctor. Luckily, Inam a nurse who works next to my doctor at the hospital and he is a learning maniac. He reads studies and journals ALL THE TIME. He loves learning as he is a doctor, lawyer and a mathematician. So, I am gonna talk to him and get him stoked to learn something new. I have read that's there isn't a lot for treatment but I have been on cloud nine to just have an answer. I have done so much research to figure out the reasonings for my odd symptoms and you have filled my never ending void. Thanks again.

How are you now? I also have a disk herniation in L4/5 (right) pressing the nerve roots. Gives a tingeling and burning sensation down the leg as well as stinging pain in the lower back region. Cyckling helps and climbing is ok. Painkillers give some effect but are only using "over the counter" pills as well as the arcoxia i use for my spondolytis.
