Arm, hands, legs jerking ?

Oct 10, 2015 8:25 PM

I got up this morning and my arms, hands and legs were jerking and seemed like they didn't want to hold my legs up. My arms and hands jerking. Anyone having anything like this. I went to the ER, and the Dr was fantastic he didn't think I was there for drugs! I was so happy that he said he knew I wasn't there to get more drugs. He said he knew that it was something going on with my spine and he thought it was inflammation. He gave me a shot of steroid and ordered 5 days worth, told me to keep a close eye on my blood sugars.

Just my hand tremors weezie, and the er doc thought they're caused by my neck too (so does my hubby and I). Mayo blames my meds, and the Ortho and Neuro docs want to adamantly say it's not my spine. How come in continuing to get weaker? I hope you call your doc Monday. Keep us posted. Hugs and a prayer for you! 🙏🌼

Flappsy I intend to call him as soon as they open in the morning. I was so shocked when he told me that he knew I wasn't there for drugs. I wanted to shout Praise God some one is listening. He told me with everything I have I wasn't making it easy on him trying to decide what to prescribe me. He was very kind, considerate, and listened to me for a change. He said he felt like I had inflammation around my spine, so he prescribed predisone 20 mg once a day for 5 days. He told me to keep a close eye on my blood sugars as it will make them high. He gave me a injection of steroid and sent me home. Today my head doesn't feel right it's kind of woozy, and my daughter said that I have been stuttering when I talk and my CS is really hurting me it's a 8-10. I'm going to rub cool heat rub you can get it at Walliy world brand name is equate. It works pretty good.

Flappsy I have noticed that my upper body strength is getting weaker also. I don't understand why Mayo Dr's are wanting to blame yours on medication. I think it has to do with the government. They want to make it so hard on the Dr's writing pain meds., for chronic pain patient's that the stop doing it. My Dr complains every month when I go for new scripts. I think I'm fixing to try and find a pain specialist to start seeing again. I also think that I need to find Psychologist that is knowledgeable in chronic pain.

Weezie, the stuttering doesn't sound right. Did the doc give you anything that would cause grogginess or confusion? If not and it continues, you may need to go back to the ER. It could be somethings happened in your spine to me. Could it be the syrinx? I'm worried about you... Praying for you too! (((Hugs)))

As for Mayo, read my post on the Mayo link. 🙏🌼

Flappsy all he gave me was a protatacal for my stomach, and the steroid inj. That was around 5 pm yesterday. I don't think that it should be still in my system by now. Do you?

Weezie, I'm sorry that this happened to you. I glad though, that you got an understanding ER doctor and he didn't accuse you of drug seeking. I have been experiencing violent jerking as I try to drift off to sleep. I have been to the neurologist several times over the years and it's not a constant thing. The term for it is a hypoglogic jerk. It has something to do with the brain trying to fight itself against the sleep cycle. Sometimes only a hand, a whole arm, both arms, sometimes my entire body. If it happens enough times in a row, it will have jerked me right out of being sleepy. Now today, I'm exhausted. I've had trouble keeping my eyes open all day. The no sleep has more than caught up with me and on top of that I woke this morning with the period from hell.. It is so bad with the cramps, clots and flow (sorry, tmi), that I feel lightheaded and weak. I don't thing I'll sleep much tonight though because I just now got out of the shower, put on loungers and came up to relax. I have to be up early for pain management. I am more awake after the shower but am sure I'll drift off about an hour and then be up all night. I hate going to pain management (with the exception of the hot young man I told y'all about that I tease and flirt with abs make him blush... Tomorrow I'm going to try to get a picture of him!! LOL!!!) anyway, I am fairly certain that I'll be up all night so when I get home tomorrow I'll take an Ativan and try to crash for a while. I hope that everyone has a good night's sleep and wakes refreshed and ready for a peaceful and light pain Monday. 🌻🙏🏻

I learned something new tonight, while looking over my Mayo records. From the emg test results they diagnosed me with Myoclonus, which can be the same as hypnogogic jerks, which I've had but didn't mention to them. Also diagnosed tremors, and several other things I can't remember right now. But with AlwayZ mentioning them, it's possible that's what you have weezie. Wishing you both, and everyone a peaceful night's rest, regardless of sleep. AlwayZ, start repeating "I think I can, I think I can, I know I can...sleep!" 😉 Hugs to you both. 🙏🌼

You know, this happens to me constantly. I've never thought to mention to my Dr. I think I will. I have bad insomnia. I take.two different med for it. I can be dozing, then get the jerks and will be wide awake for hours, even with taking both meds.

Flappsy... I think I can... I think I can.... LOL!!! You're such a gem I don't know what I'd ever do without you. {{{{Hugs}}}} 💕🙏🏻🌻

I've had the same type of thing since my surgery. I'm assuming it's due to the large tumors I had removed. And my body readjusting to its new state

I am going to mention it to my Neurologist and see what he says. I appreciate all y'all input to me hopefully everyone will have a good peaceful night. Hugs to everyone.

Highly recommend a good pain doc! Mine is great and works with me, stresses lots of stuff besides just meds. Pick someone who you like, is good, you feel comfortable with. Ask how they feel about treating chronic pain. I also recommend reading 'Intractable Pain a patients Handbook for Survival' great tips while waiting for a doc and then picking one, how to choose a doc, what your options are as far as meds, and many good stretches etc. totally free pdf just google the title. I found it when someone posted about it on another forum (Ehlers Danlos national foundation web site at www.ednf.org) - the info is priceless and the dr has been pain specialist for like 50 years, still publishes, I think he helped found practical pain management web site, and his pic was once in national geographic. Best free book on pain treatment I've ever read!

I'm getting that book right now!!!

Lol really really helped. The hands over your head exercise looks so stupid, just hold arms up as high as comfortable in a Y and open and close hands. Up actually helps tho and when I forget I know it! Really, priceless and better yet FREE! Plmk what you think. It also was good for close loved ones to read, stresses the importance of low stress calm environment, if only my loved ones would listen!!! Hope you feel much better soon !!!

Cami, I will definitely let you know what I think of the book!! Free is always good, especially when many of us are in a fixed income (or no income) but if it helps, I'm in even if I had to pay for it. I hope that everyone has a peaceful and light pain day. {{{Hugs}}} and prayers to all. 🌻🙏🏻
