Arm twitch ideas

Nov 24, 2016 7:17 AM

My first post, but let me start off by saying Happy Thanksgiving!
So my left tricep has been twitching about a week now. I was diagnosed w fibro early October (finally, after dealing with doctors, neuros, rheum over a yr and a half).
Anyone have any suggestions on making it stop?
I get the muscle twitchy part of fibro really bad but this tricep has been the devil, this is the longest a muscle twitch has lasted.

Hi Beersy and welcome to the community. There are many members on here from around the world so you may find people read and answer posts at the different times (me I'll answer whenever I'm awake which is a lot at times!!!)
I'm sorry I can't help you much about the twitches as I don't get them....I'm not a fibro warrior I'm a trigeminal neuralgia warrior.

The few things I can suggest would be have you tried bathing in a hot bath with 1-2 cups of Epsom bath salts? or there's magnesium sprays you can spray direct on to the skin where you need or have you thought about magnesium supplements?
Magnesium is meant to help relax muscles so it may help a little with the twitches.....like I said I don't get that and I'm not a fibro warrior but there will be others along at some point who will be able to help more.
I hope it eases up for you and you have a better day xx

Welcome to the community! I don't get twitches. I like what Sezzy said about the magnesium. My arms and legs jerk. It is always when I am resting. Drives me crazy. I wander if that is related to twitches. Happy Thanksgiving!

I haven't tried either but am willing to give anything a whirl!!!! I've read about Epsom salts, not just for fibro but for many things in the past and have been wanting to try it. I was told to try acupuncture...was curious if any has tried that for pain and/or twitching also?

I do acupuncture. I find it helps both the pain and twitching but it does take several sessions and some people are better at it than others. If i have a twitching spot my acupuncturist will put the needle in and agitate the area until it twitches really hard and hurts like hell but it calms down after that.
I also do massage to help.
Maybe eat a couple bananas to see if it calms down a little. I'm on potassium supplements as well as magnesium malate

Because of the neuralgia pain I get in the left side of my face I tense a lot so I now get pain which is almost as bad in my neck and shoulders and I've found laying in a hot bath with the Epsom salts really helps my neck and shoulders but it also helps the rest of my muscles and it helps moisturise my skin.....always an added bonus!!! Lol I also have a magnesium spray that I try to get one of my kids to rub into my neck and shoulders....hard for me to get to on my own....I've found it helps a bit, not as much as the Epsom salts tho (maybe I'm not using enough or the kids aren't rubbing it in enough?). I've found depending on the pain a tens machine helps but sometimes it can also aggrevate the pain.
With regards to acupuncture I'm very interested in trying it myself as earlier in the year I'd saved up and got a few tattoos and the one I had just below my left ear actually put me almost to sleep and I had no neuralgia pain for 4 whole days...๐ŸŽ‰...OMG I was so happy but then it came back ๐Ÿ˜ and I haven't been able to afford acupuncture as life and bills get in the way!!

She does the jaw muscle on me. The one that pushes on the facial nerve. I've had less pain since she started to do that spot. But she always makes it twitch hard and i always try to jump off the table because it hurts like hell. But i can eat solid food again. Yay!
I think it's worth saving for.

I've had these twitching of my arms and legs have been happening for 3 yrs and the end of October I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia which answered ALOT for me, I have fatigue and gastroparesis and diabetes and osteoarthritis, and my neck is so painful that I had wondered if something was out of place well know I have my answers because I know what is causing all the wide spread pain all over my body especially my back , arms, neck and the twitching has gotten unbearable I'm unable to write very well, and standing is hard because my legs will calapse on me so I saw this magnesium 375 and I'm going to give it a whirl.

The pain from acupuncture is what I'm afraid of....i had an EMG on both legs and nearly ran out of the neuros office (although I tolerate tattoos fine). I'll try the Epsom and Magnesium and see if that helps at all. Thank u all for your help and suggestions!

I've never had an emg but I've had they are stupid painful. Acupuncture only hurts if the muscle twitches and only for as long as it twitches. I tell myself that its a short term increase in pain for a substantial decrease in pain overall. It's worth it in my opinion.
I've never had a tattoo done but i can imagine that is incredibly painful too.
If you do go for acupuncture tell the person you are afraid of the pain and they'll probably go very easy on you until your ready for more

Beersy, welcome to the community!! I have had 3 EMG's and I'd rather deal with pain than ever get another, they were horribly painful!!! I have several tattoos and to me, getting inked is like zen.. I get so relaxed that I have fallen asleep and I sat for 3.5 hours for the huge ones on my calves and my shoulder.. I can sit for hours. Don't worry about the acupuncture because it will make you feel as you did when you were tattooed. Hang in there, it gets better (and worse and better). You go this!!!! {{Hugs))๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ’•

I swear whoever devised that thing is evil!!! (Kidding I know it has its medical advantages). The neuro said- "see you next week we will do your arms" I said no you won't!!!!

Omg...๐Ÿซ The worst bit ๐Ÿ˜‰was when he stuffed that bloody probe right up under my chin..๐Ÿ˜ฒ.pinning my tongue to the bottom of my mouth... ๐Ÿค‘all he said was "last one!".. and then did it! ๐ŸซDamn i coulda punched him right there and then... ๐Ÿดonly i had sat on my hands just incase! ๐Ÿ˜ not ideal! ๐Ÿค—

Nov 26, 2016 11:05 AM

OMG Lulabel... when I had my second one, the doc said last one and shoved that fucking probe right under and next to my jaw and did the same thing.. ๐Ÿ˜–.. I have goosebumps thinking about it!!! OUCH!! See, no wonder nobody wants to go for another one..๐Ÿ˜ณ๐Ÿ™„.. pain management mentioned one and I said I wouldn't do it again but after the fluoroscopy guided injections they said they knew why I had more pain in my jaw, neck and shoulder.. (imagine that๐Ÿ˜œ๐Ÿ˜‰) and hence the surgery and scs trials.. such is life, right??๐Ÿค—
