Aspirin-Menthol Rub

Jul 17, 2015 3:26 AM

I keep having this upper back/neck/shoulder blade pain and then the bones seem to stick out further then normal.
So I'm using this hot and cold rub, but it literally feels like a sunburn. It's fine if you only use a little bit, but I'm using more because I'm stiff.

I'm hoping that it won't keep burning for too long, but it definitely helps the aches.

Drop you ever see a chiropractor? Yup may have some ribs out. It happens pretty easily when reaching overhead or at an odd angle for something just a little too heavy, in my case usually books because of my librarian job. My chiropractor has to put them back in place or it bothers my shoulder, down my arm, up my neck, causes migraines, hurts my rib cage a bit, sore sternum sometimes to touch. And yes, it's like my shoulder blade sticks out funny. Have the exact same problem sometimes with my muscle rub which is similar aspirin/menthol, just too much sensation! It's been ok right now which is good because I've needed it for my shoulder/ribs, plus added bonus my boyfriend has been kind enough to give a massage with it. I hope you aren't burning up all night and get relief and rest.

I would like to see a chiropractor someday, but I can't afford it right now.

I'm extremely lucky my insurance covers chiropractic. I still don't go as much as I should because copay add up. Same with acupuncture, I have it covered, but the cost of visits really adds up when they want to see you two or three times a week. My sister has Lyme disease and for a long time had no coverage or diagnosis. She found a couple chiropractors that would work with her having no income. You could check around to see if there are any local clinics that offer a discounted rate or will work with you. In my experience there's two basic types of chiropractors, the ones who try to lure you in with free x-rays and an initial exam and then overcharge for nearly everything while being very strict and preachy about your health habits, and two the chiropractor that genuinely cares about helping patients and works with you to find a treatment plan and exercise schedule you can handle as well as making sure to not empty your checking account. I've had a couple from both categories, with my current chiropractor being an amazing healer and licensed medical examiner as well as an all around helpful and funny guy. He loaned me a TENS machine for nearly 6 months no charge, no strings attached. Likewise I have a balance ball for stability exercises, a small black therapy ball for neck exercises (looks like a black dodge ball) and more resistance bands than you can imagine in all different strengths. All included in my care. My insurance is not THAT good. He is one of the Dr.s that worked with my sister too. Charged her just $7 a visit.
Sorry this became such a long reply. I'm getting drowsy from my morphine and it makes me chatty. My main point is: Don't rule out chiropractic care because of cost, there are options out there.

Ferretbandit, my doc told me to be very careful using the aspirin based ointments. I've used one PT uses but I can't remember the name, and it was good. But now my doc prescribed Voltaren gel. It works so much better and faster. But as all ointments are just temporary you have to reapply around the clock. Chiropractors are good! And different ones, usually those not in fancy buildings, are more willing to work with low income patients. Check around. Good luck & praying you'll find one! 🙏🌼
