Autoimmune Skin Issues

Jul 05, 2016 9:37 AM

I've had raised, itching, scaly spots in the creases of my fingers & thumbs & palms grow over 5 months. I get cracked bleeding fingertips every winter, but going from liquid soaps to Ivory bar soap has helped some. My cuticles start cracked & split, and the skin peels away. I use foot creme for my cracked heels, before I put my socks on. Gold Bond ultimate healing hand lotion & Sally Hansen cuticle cream does ok for my hands, if I constantly out it on.

Now I'm developing itchy spots that weekly up then look like shiny waxy scars, and they grow bigger after every itching episode. Ugly!!! Per the dermatologist it's all Autoimmune. He said there's nothing I can do or take to stop or reduce it. Golly gee, I hope I don't get one on the top of Mt nose! 👹 Lol Who else deals with AI skin issues and what, if anything, helps with the itching, dryness, peeling, etc? 🙂💕🙏🌼

Oh bless your heart, Flappy. I don't deal with AI skin issues but I DO deal with weird, picky skin. What about going SUPER gentle and natural and trying something like shea butter and/or olive oil massaged directly into your heels and hands? In desperation, I tried plain EVOO (yep, the stuff you cook with) when I developed weird dry, scaly patches on my legs thanks to my CRPS. Now, I slather myself with the stuff after a shower and put another good slathering of shea on my hands and feet before I crash at night. It's not perfect but it's better than any thing else I have tried. You may have to experiment to figure out what kind of oil or butter works best for you though. As with everything pain-related, it's an exercise in patience.

Flappy, I suffer with chronic Psoriasis, especially on my palms, fingers, lower extremities. It is absolutely horrible, and if you scratch because of the major intense itching feeling, you do get cracked, bleeding, swollen, dried out skin which is inflammed and painful. I use a topical steroid, I only use a very itty bitty bit..cuz it does increase the dryness and the plaques (scaliness) then it starts itching again , then I scratch, bleed, inflammes, all-over again....it is a vicious horrible cycle.. wear gloves when washing dishing or if you anticipate you will be getting you hands wet... moisturizer, moisturizer, moisturizer!!!! I know how horrible it is..and believe me no one knows just how debilitating autoimmune skin diseases like Psoriasis can be. Keep the dry scales plaques away as best you can. I use a drummer type file to brisk the top layers of scales off....believe me it HELPS SO MUCH! Love ya, Flappylady.😘🙌👍💕💕💕💕💕🎆🎆🎆🎆🎆🎇
