Awkward conversations - chronic illness is no joke

Nov 11, 2015 9:58 PM

People are still making jokes in theatre about chronic illness, so when I can, I point out that people are living, surviving, and pain isn't funny. Then, it will usually be silent for awhile. It's awkward, but oh well.

The other day, my friend and I were talking about POTS, and someone else interjected that they thought they might have it, so I described the symptoms, and asked my friend about her experience, and then the other person just kind of said "oh." But he seemed more thoughtful after that...

Ferretbandit, I'm sorry that happened to you. I am glad that you at least spoke up. Sometimes it only takes once and other times it takes more. Hopefully these people will be more considerate and not say stupid things like that. I hope you get some rest. Sending you gentle {{{Hugs}}} and hope that tomorrow brings a better day with less pain. 💕🙏🏻🌻

I wish I was able to stand up more like that when I was in school. I'm proud of you ^,^

Ferretbandit, that's wonderful you were able to share your experience. You may have to do so again, but the more you speak the more they will learn. Hopefully you won't have to. Praying you have a good day, with (((hugs))). 🙏🌼
