Bad days

Apr 24, 2015 9:58 AM

So I'm now forgetting what a good day feels like, been in horrible pain this week and went to see my GP who hadn't even gone to the effort of reading my notes and was telling me that it's just an issue with muscles due to possibly bad posture and wouldn't give me any pain killers to help even after I pointed out that he should probably read my notes as there are x-rays and MRI scans that disagree with him!

Does anyone have any tips on dealing with bad doctors? I'm currently waiting until I can get an appointment with a doctor who seems to care at my doctor's, but haven't been able to get an appointment yet :( my current meds really aren't making much of a difference. I see my specialist on the 30th, should I just wait to see him?

Also, any tips on what to do when the pain is really bad?

I know exactly where you are at the moment. l have been in the middle, I think, of a pretty bad flare up. My pain has been awful and I'm moody, weepy, in horrible pain and don't want to do anything but try to sleep through it all which is impossible. If you are at a point where your pain is beyond your tolerance and you don't have meds to help you, I would suggest working on your breathing in a quiet room. Breathe with your abdomen, deep breaths in through your nose and out through your mouth. Cleansing breaths, at the same time, relax a different part of your body with each exhale. Have some quiet music on in the background to sooth you and help you along the way. Perhaps a warm bath or some heated compresses on the worst areas. You may even want to try to do some gentle stretching after you have relaxed. As far as the doctor... I would definitely go with your gut. If you do NOT agree with what his treatment is then you need to check with your insurance company and see what doctors are in your network and then make sure to do your research. See if they are board certified, call the office and ask to make an appointment for a consult to see if this doctor is going to listen to you and be a good match. I hope you have good luck and find a doctor who will help you with your pain. Sending positive vibes your way. I hope you have a peaceful day and less pain.

Sadly there are tons of bad doctors, and I found out recently that GPs are usually the people who couldn't keep up with medical school which is sad because people usually spend the most time with them.
The doctors bad doctors usually have the most availability because no one wants to be around them.
I would try to find a different/better doctor ASAP because you'll likely have to deal with your GP anyway.
I've been pushed around before by doctors.
I was having extreme dental pain, and there were x-rays to show that all my teeth were being jammed together.
Everyone said I had to talk to the other person.
My dentist sent me to my GP.
My GP sent me to my neurologist.
My neurologist sent me back to my GP.
My GP said I was seeking drugs.
She did not look at the x rays I brought in.
I guess I'd just say do not rely on any one person.
Good luck!

Thanks, I've tried deep breaths etc but not working as the deep breath causes more pain on the back of my ribs, I yawned this afternoon and nearly fell down in agony. Going to try a bath to help, thanks for replies, for all obviously they'll never get rid of the pain its nice to know there's people out there who care and, unfortunately, understand :)

Hang in there, stay strong and keep hold to your faith.... Also, know that you're never alone and you will have us to listen and give you any ideas that helped or didn't help us but could benefit you. I have Costochondritis, so I know what that chest, rib pain is and when you take a deep breath, if you can, it is agonizing. I hope you can get comfortable and relax.

Cal, I'm sorry you're having a hard time. I'm dealing with a doctor I'm not sure is right for me anymore, but I'm not sure I can change docs right now. Destressing is the best way to handle pain or docs or bad days. AlwayZ covered that pretty good. My new dog is a great destressor for me. I'll add you to my prayer list. I hope you,and everyone gets a decent night's sleep.🙏🌼
