Balancing fibro with no pain meds

Jun 23, 2017 5:52 AM

Anyone on here that has developed addiction to narcotics and is now in recovery and balancing fibro with no narcotics? (I take other things like gaba, cymbalta, Tylenol and muscle relaxors) just wondering if there is anyone else in the same boat

I only take Lyrica. No narcotic. Docs around here won't prescribe them.

I haven't bought into the addiction hysteria...but I take NOTHING!

I was addicted like detox and 30 day inpatient rehab and mixing with alcohol....to numb the depression.....so in my case I would not call it hysteria.....just looking to see if there are other people who have fallen into a bad path but are finding there way out of it as I am also

i also take gaba, cymbalta, aleve and muscle relaxers. They also started me on naloxone. There's a new study out about people getting relief from fibro pain with it. It might be worth looking into especially if there is an addiction problem. Good for you for going to treatment. It's not easy.

Sorry it's not naloxone it's naltrexone.

Hey Spunky I am with you as far as the whole govt control... Doctor.... hysteria and the way the govt is pushing the pain med hysteria. Totally different thing than the people who actually get addicted the different substances. They need a new " bad guy" and they use the media to push their agenda. But this is a whole othet topic I think we should start a thread about. As far as the original question..I have been without a doctor for about 5 yrs now. He moved his practice back east...and because of the new agenda about pain meds haven't found a new doctor that isn't afraid ... they arent treating their patients. After all that's what pain meds are for....PAIN. I have been on some sort of pain med since I was 16. Alot of us don't get addicted...we just use them for their purpose. I have found nothing else that comes close to working like they do....sorry, its hard not to get angry that I had a life before when on proper medication....and now because of some fat cat in Washington who has figured out a way that it's more profitable for them to push no pain meds .. those of us that benefited from them are left to suffer in a never ending hell. I was surprised that no one on here is discussing this issue. Anyway I'm sorry I don't have any suggestion for you Frustrated. I have been searching for yrs.

I am going to have too look for that study I am on naltrexone to help with the addiction sides so thanx for info I'm gonna check that out. Unfortunately I can't take ibueproffin or alive because i had wt loss surf. I do take Tylenol. Treatment is not easy but it's already far better then I was before I went to treatment. So it's been so worth it

I am the one that started this post in hopes of making connections with other chronic pain sufferers in recovery, and or chronic pain sufferers that choose (because they want to not because the doc forced it) to manage there fibro with other methods. I am 68days clean and proud of it and for the most part my pain is far better managed with out the narcotics.....everyone has there own opinions but would like to make connections with people I can relate to and vise versa

I just reread and realized I meant to say sorry Dragon chick I don't know of anything...sorry for the mistake too

Dragonchick, my niece has fibro and has given up meds of all kinds. She changed her diet with the help of her doctor. She started with giving up dairy, then the next week she gave up gluten. I will attest that she was a little witch when she was in pain. But by 6 weeks her attitude changed, her pain levels dropped, and we can stand to be around her, lol. My doc even suggested I do the same. After this first week I have more energy. Yes I have cheated, can't let the food in my house go to waste, lol. I bought a book on how to eat, Wahls Protocol. I just can't seem to eat green stuff for breakfast. And I hate smoothies. But during my last 2 shopping trips my husband has carried his glasses to read packages. If you want more info on what I am trying to do just ask.

I appreciate the info but being post gastric bypass I have high protein requirements and use milk products to supplement my protine but think you

No worrys brokenbones but thank you

The diet or protocol has some of the highest protein requirements I have ever seen. But it uses free range/grass fed meats, organ meats, mushrooms etc. Nothing processed. I was surprised to find some foods that I did not know had hidden protein in them. But even just dropping corn and white sugar foods, ie potatoes has been a great help on myself.
