This is really rather disgusting, but I'm pretty much at my wits end. Starting Thursday afternoon I have had uncontrollable diarrhea. Sometimes I just stand up and here it comes! I am so run down as I have not been able to sleep because of this. I have been trying to drink as much Gatorade as I can, but I swear, within minutes it's gone through me. The weird part about it is that I do not have any stomach cramps or vomiting. Oh and I got really dehydrated and by Friday night needed an IV. They tested me for everything from e. Coli, bacterial infections, and like a dozen different viruses. All were negative. Anybody got any ideas? Sorry this is so disgusting.
First off, Gatorade only replenishes salt that you lose from sweating. That's why athletes use it. Pedialyte although for children is the only thing that replaces potassium and magnesium and sodium. Try the BRAT diet...bananas, rice, apples, tea (not herbal green tea). Regular black tea. Either cold or hot. If it doesn't help by tomorrow, call or get to your Dr. Cheese also helps.
Poor you. I am so sorry to hear that. Are you really stressed out over something. Have you tried any probiotics? I hope whatever is causing this clears out and your gut health gets back on track. Are you trying the BRAT diet? Bananas Rice Applesauce Toast? Can you switch to Smart Water instead of Gatorade? Just some thoughts. Take care.
So true with been there done that. I lived in Malaysia for seven years. I had Salmonella once , Typhoid Fever once and food poisoning so often it was ridiculous. The Dr would give me a shot to stop vomiting and a shot to stop the diarrhea and put me on an iv to hydrate. Oh good times.Hugging the porcelain throne.🚽 ha ha ha.
Yes I had this problem about two weeks ago. I was told nothing was wrong either although I was still going with ever step I was basically just given some scripts to stop movement which replaces the bacteria I did not have in my belly and something for nausea. It still took two days to work. I lost 10/lbs in four days. It was horrible. I still don't know what causes it neither do the doctor but I still have a script for the meds to stop my loose bms if it happens again. My rheumatologist seemed to be familiar with this complaint but had no real answers just called it Ibs-d
Well, I have been trying to use the brat diet, not sure how much longer I should wait to go back into ER. Am feeling so weak and dizzy. If they tested for bacteria infections, do they test for the bacteria that's supposed to be there too?
sorry if you said but have you taken antibiotics recently and did they test specifically for C.dificile? It took a while before I was diagnosed, it wasn't something Drs automatically looked for. It can result from antibiotic use (even though it's treated with stronger antibiotics) that's why I asked. They probably checked but those were some of my symptoms at the time and it did require a specific test. I hope you're feeling better.
It's sure taking it's old sweet time (seems like it's been forever), but, knock on wood, but I think the virus that's taken up my guts is finally starting to move along. Again, I wanna thank all who provided advice and support.
WendyJeanne, there's a stomach virus going around that causes diarrhea for days. My neices family had it, and kids at my daughter's day care had it. It's between in the news and just arrived in GA 2 weeks ago.
I have IBS-C, so for me to have diarrhea it's very troubling. I've been having it for months. My pelvic floor therapist told me to stop taking the Linzess, and take 2 Senokot-S tabs. The diarrhea has stopped, but I also have more sluggish BMs and skip days. The abstract is I'm not having incontinence accidents, but the con is I feel bloated & nauseated because my food doesn't empty often enough. There is no middle ground with IBS!
I oppose you will be totally recovered by tomorrow. 🙏🌼
Well, come Sunday the 8th, it was back to the emergency room... Again. Sad thing is, I'm still in the hospital!! I have been through so many scans, and nobody knows anything. The only thing I know is getting up out of bed evert one to two hours to go to the bathroom and at least that many tines during the day is about killing me. The doc should be making rounds soon, maybe he found some magical cure.
Hi Equinesister, no I didn't have any med changes. I ended up in the hospital for 2 days to get my electrolytes balanced out. Basically I had No magnesium in my system and barely any potassium. They tested for EVERYTHING, including C-diff, ecoli, etc. And all were negative. They say it was a virus. I have a follow up with my primary care tomorrow. This was horrible!! I don't ever want to have this again. I am much better now, I'm praying that I stay that way.
