Bladder PAIN and spazzing

Jul 23, 2015 11:07 PM

Anyone else out there with interstitial cystitis or painful bladder syndrome? I am not sure if it is the stress I'm under, my endometriosis that's on my bladder, or something I ate that is irritating the lining but my bladder is going crazy!!!! So much intense pain and spazzing! I feel urinary urgency, but of course do not have to go and if I try it is awful feels worse than ever and I just want to die. I took Tums and drank a ton of water which is my physical therapist's trick for fixing things if it was spicy food or soda or something like that irritating the lining of the bladder. It took some of the edge off, so I know I'm on the right track. Does anyone else have any home care remedies? I'm thinking I'll take an Epsom salt soak to try to calm the spasms. Guess I better contact urology in the morning about starting instillations again. :( I hate being cathed.

What about the AZO remedies? They work fantastic and are over the counter. Warning your urine will be neon orange/brownish and if you wear contacts your tears will be slightly tinted and possibly stain your contacts.

AZO hasn't ever worked for this problem in the past. It has worked for UTI symptoms when I had infections before, but this is like 10 x that and it just doesn't seem to respond to AZO very well even though my Dr said to try it as well. I just end up with bright red pee. I used to have a prescription patch that helped, but I don't remember what it was. I have long periods of remission where nothing happens with my bladder out of the ordinary.

Wynnbliss, have you tried cranberry juice? It won't help if you have an infection, but I use it when my interstitial cystitis flares up. My doctor gave me a rx for oxybutynin that I use when needed. 🙏🌼

Wynnbliss36, one thing I can tell you for sure is that tums are not going to help the lining of your bladder. Drinking water and flushing out your system will but the Tums only work on the lining of the stomach to relieve distress from something you ate. Something you may want to try would be either cranberry juice every day or that cranberry stuff called cystex (Spelling?) which is a more concentrated cranberry liquid that you take by the tablespoon. I hope you find the answers you need to help with this situation. I know for myself, when I am very stressed,'I feel the urge to urinate several more times a day than normal. When I get down the stairs and into the bathroom, I sit and then drop, drop, drip

Oops.. Hit send to fast. LOL!! It's almost not worth going downstairs for it but I actually feel like I have to do a full pee so I don't take a chance. Perhaps you could try AZO, maybe that was the actual stuff I was thinking of. I hope you find the answer. Good luck!!💕

Barley lemon water helped me couple of months back, flushed my system out after I had a painful bladder and wanting to go every five minutes, water sample to docs showed no infection, but was so painful I had to sit with a hot water bottle.

Alwayz actually Tums totally works for a lot of people with IC and many use it instead of the drug prelief (you can Google it if you want), it's the calcium carbonate in it that does the trick so really just plain calcium supplements would work too. The spearmint, menthol, and eucalyptus Epsom salt baths I took also helped a lot. For some reason consuming cranberry when my bladder is irritated or in spasm creates more problems. If I water it way down I could do it, but not at full strength.

Wynnbliss, thank you for the information. I learned something new today!! You taught me something I never knew. I hope you are able to find the help you need to feel better I'm so sorry that you are going through this. Keep me posted and let me know how you are doing. Gentle hugs and my prayers are with you for a good outcome 💕🙏🏻🌻

Alwayz, been diluting cranberry along with using the calcium carbonate and have been doing much better in the bladder department. Ended up with an awful migraine in my sleep last night which paralyzed me from getting meds but boyfriend was able to figure out what was happening and get my maxalt which dissolves on my tongue. I hate feeling trapped in pain and a sort of fever dream state which lasted much of the day as I needed multiple doses of my migraine recovery meds and antinausea. Thought I might have to go to the ER but thankfully everything cleared. Just have to keep pushing the liquids to stay hydrated and try to keep my stress down so nothing else flares up!

Cysticlean! That's what I used when had a few years of suffering with I.C. I also had repeated infection there so that didn't help. But I started taking these daily and after a month or so, I stopped suffering as much. Eventually I stopped getting symptoms and stopped taking the pills. Six months to a year of taking them has left me relative free of that pain. I would do it again in a heartbeat if it started up again.
Mine tends to happen in intervals so I'll go a while with nothing then it'll randomly start up again. Not sure if I'd notice as much with all my current meds!
It's a cranberry based suppliment so I'm sure there are others available too that may be more accessible where you are. I had to order mine from online.
Really hope you find the answer to relieve this, it's horrible at best!😖

Hi I'm new to this app and was diagnosed with interstitial cystitis 4 years ago I've been advised to avoid all cranberry related products they are great for regular cystitis but I.C is very differnet. I use a urinary alkaliser when it gets bad which basically just tastes a bit better than baking soda in water and ice packs when my bladder feels sore and swollen. Know this discussion was a while ago now and I hope you're feeling better.

Ooh do NOT use AZO if you have IC. It is cranberry based and a HUGE no no. My IC is both hormone and surgery induced so I fight it constantly. I have found milk products help me and a heating pad are my best friend. 800mg of ibuprofen take the edge of and distilled water help flush the urgency. I've had IC for 4 years and am slowly getti b get a handle on it, but it's working. Best wishes

Hi. I have always had bladder problems...always. I wet my bed until I was 12. I've always gone to the bathroom more than anyone else. A few years ago I had a hysterectomy and a bladder tuck. Since then, I've had even more problems. I can literally dehydrate myself and still have to pee at least every hour. I never sleep through the night and have even wet my bed a couple of times as an adult!!! I was mortified!!! I'm going to see my PCP Thurday and get a referral to a urologist. I've never been before. I've always just delt with it, but I'm missing out on so much. The pain keeps me from doing most of the stuff I want, but even on a low pain day I always have to be near a bathroom. I bet I went to the bathroom at least 25 times yesterday, probably more. What ca I expect at my first urology appointment? What are some of y'all symptoms? How do they make a diagnosis?
