Broken patella and femur on top of incurable illnesses

Oct 25, 2017 9:01 PM

So I had an accident and broke my femur and patella. I keep wanting to get up and get stuff and then remember that I can't carry anything, as that leg is designated NWB (non-weight bearing). I'm worried that I'm going to need more help at home than they are saying.

My boyfriend is being a huge help (makes sure I eat at least once a day) but I refuse to burn he and my mom out. I already have a few good old debilitating illnesses in a regular basis but add this in and it's just gotta be too much. I know it is for me but they're both taking it really well. But it's only been 13 days. And wasn't left alone at all for nearly 8 days. That's a difference from going from living alone to having my mom or boyfriend here or my aunt or brother. Lol. I am so glad to have them all in my life.

So I guess this is my silent thank you to them both (I'm not a fan of telling everyone my business on FB it think about deleting that thing Facebook ooh... Anyway lol sorry ) . I guess I'll put in my time at healing my leg by writing them all handmade thank you cards.

I'm so sorry you broke your leg. That's got to be really hard. I'm glad you have your family in your life that can help you out.

I just wish I knew what to expect from all this. My doctors office isn't being helpful

And yes you are right in incredibly lucky to have my family to help out. I dunno where I would be without them.

So sorry about your leg and how you feel about your independence. I think your homemade thank you card idea is very sweet and it may also be theraputic for you. I love projects on days when I'm feeling blue or useless. They make me feel productive and inspired. I've been struggling with my loss of independence but am trying to look at as a way to reconnect or build stronger relationships with people I have to rely on (not my husband {that would be bad if I had to reconnect with him} but like my parents, friends I haven't seen it a while, neighbors, etc.). I hope the best for you!

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. In 2015 I broke my tibia, ankle and part of my foot. I felt so embarrassed needing help all the time from my mom and boyfriend. It was a testing period for us all but we got through it. There are some great online activities to keep you guys. Pinterest, instagram, puzzles, phone apps, magazines, books, movies, etc. I remember around the 3 week mark I hit the boredom wall and thought I was going to drive myself insane! I hope you heal quickly!
