Chemo-induced peripheral neuropathy

Sep 21, 2018 12:07 PM

I’m new and am looking for tips on managing the nerve pain in my hands and feet after treatment for colon cancer. I take gabapentin and magnesium, which help, but it’s brutal when the pain breaks through. Anyone out there have a similar experience and how do you manage it?

Jolique, I'm sorry to hear what you're going through. I have peripheral neuropathy from fibromyalgia and when I'm in a flare up I have to take Tramadol too (pain reliever). I'm lucky that my flare ups rarely last over 5 days, though my last was 2 weeks long. Hopefully other's will provide more suggestions soon. Hugs love & prayers you have a good day today!🙂❤🙏🌼

Sorry about your neuropathy! Mine is limited to my feet. It was brought on by Velcade & Revlimid, treatments for multiple myeloma. Gabapentin - 3600 mgs/day - combined with Cymbalta helps a lot. So do 2 capsules of Oxycontin each day. But my pain level is still at a 5 most of the day. Have tried tons of creams & gels, but none have worked yet. Bought 3 kinds of medical marijuana treatments but they haven’t proved effective yet. May God bless you in your pain.

Have you considered CBD oil? I poo pooed the idea because of the amount of pharmaceuticals I was on that did not help much but this changed everything. I put 6 or 7 drops in my hand and rub anything that hurts. I usually have complete relief in 20 minutes or less. Hope this helps you.
