Chest pain!

Sep 10, 2015 9:26 PM

I've had horrible chest pain since the begining of this year. It's not an everyday thing, probably 5/7 days a week though. I've gotten an xray, multiple ECGs done, everything came back normal... My current doctor just thinks it's my anxiety. So instead of doing other tests she puts me on drugs. I've tried two different types of medications now and all they do is make things worse. I thought maybe I had bad heartburn, so I tried all the different types of medication out there....nothing seems to help. Occasionally my chest will hurt so bad I have trouble breathing. Does anyone have an suggestions? Should I see another doctor? (And if so, what kind of doctor?) One of these days I'll be going to the ER because MONTHS of chest pain is really starting to effect my mood. I could just cry all day I'm so sick of it. :( oh, and just so y'all know, I'm 21yrs old, female.

Go get a stress test done for the peace of mind. I have had patients having a heart attack as young as 28. Givin the fact that this has been going on for awhile, I doubt that is your issue. Have you worn a heart monitor yet? Find a quality cardiologist soon.

Addictedtoyou, do you have a family history of heart or lung problems? I was in college PE walking classes and began having problems. I was scheduled to see a cardiologist for a holler monitor (you wear @ home). Two weeks later I collapsed with all the signs of a heart attack. After a week in the hospital and many tests later they determined if had an status asthmaticus attack (my first experience and diagnosis of asthma). Now at 54 I also have angina, and its worse when I'm anxious or stressed. I would ask to be referred to a cardiologist. 🙏🌼

It could be your lungs. My mom was diagnosed with asthma but her lungs were slowly failing. Her heart tests all cam e back great even her BP was good. Now she is on oxygen and going to rehab for lung strength.

I have chest pain everyday. My doctor says its costochondritis, an inflammation between my ribs and sternum. Of course I had all the tests to rule out heart problems before they decided that's what it is. I also struggle with anxiety and I can tell you that it's two different kinds of pain. Now I've been diagnosed with fibromyalgia as well and the trigger points in my chest add to the pain. No relief for me but I do hope you are able to get a diagnosis and free from this pain.

Do you have any other symptoms besides the chest pain? Where does it hurt the worst? How long do the 'attacks'last? How is your breathing? Your sleeping well?
Do you find yourself coughing at all? Any phlegm?
I ask because all these things need to be considered before your next steps. It's very important to think about what exactly is happening rather than just draw in on the pain in your chest.
I have a lung condition and other things that affect that area, so if I can give pointers I will. So have s think and add anything you think of.😊

I get chest pain all the time. They told me it was my fibromalgia. I take Tylenol and it goes away but it does come back.

From personal experience I have had two episodes of severe chest pain when I was working at the hospital. They were caused from stress. But I also have a family history of heart disease both of my parents died with heart complications. I had Stress test both times, the last time they made me have a heart cath. You need to see a cardiologist and pulmonary Dr's to rule it out if for no reson but peace of mind. Ask to wear a halter over night it monitors how the heart is functioning over 24 to 48 hrs. DON'T LET THEM BRUSH YOU OFF !!! Ask for a stress test be sure to wear comfortable tennis shoes. If it is stress related or caused by anxiety try biofeedback, my daughter has severe anxiety if she let's it get away from her it just snowballs until it runs it's course. I have taught her when she feels it coming on to start deep breathing exercises. Take deep breath thru your nose, blow it out slowly by your mouth concentrate on your breathing go into a zone pick something to focus on and start your breathing. You will be surprised at how it works it may take a little while at first but before long you will see how much it relaxes yor body. Good luck

Ok Thank you Weezie12. I already know I have to see the cardiologist. I have been putting it off. I noticed when I keep still my chest pain does go away but iam going to schedule a Dr appointment. I usually do stress and sometimes I can control it. It is like a habit but I usually drink coffee to control my stress and water. I used to drink ice tea a lot but I decided to stop drinking it because it causes to bloat up.

Usually caffeine may make it worse. One of the worst things you can drink is soft drinks everyone thinks diet coke or dr. pepper are good for us to drink but they aren't they are worse than drinking regular drinks. Stop drinking them at all. I stopped about 5 years ago and I lived on diet drpeppers and coffee. I still drink my coffee just not as much as when I worked.

Oops hit the wrong button. I use Stevia for my sugar substitute it is derived from a plant and is safer for us to use, and unfiltered honey with some of the comb in it yummy. It is soo good in hot green tea with citrus, or with peanut butter. My drink of choice is Sobe Lifewater they come in several flavors my favorite is the berry and the strawberry and kiwi. It is sweetner with Stevia. It takes getting used to it but when you stop drinking soft drinks they taste horrible. Praying for you and sending hugs your way.

Stevie does not agree with me at all. I use regular sugar for my coffee. I drink sodas at all. Only water and coffee. I used to use Splenda and sweet and low but my stomach was bloated and when I stopped all of that. My stomach is not bloated and I feel better even though iam still in pain.

I had Chest Pain for almost two years and was finally diagnosed with upper back problems. A pain doc that they sent me to after having every heart test known to man, ordered an Mri which showed 6 tarlov cysts and a herniation at T5.
I can't say this is the same for you obviously but having your pcp order an mri might be a good idea.

Ps ... I never had any back pain
