Chronic back and knee pain

Nov 19, 2015 11:21 PM

Hello, my name is Lexi. I sprained my back in early September of this year while exercising and then ten days later, I tripped getting onto a bus and injured my knee. It took weeks and weeks for my health insurance to OK physical therapy for both my back and knee when it was not getting better. I have had 6 scheduled appointments for physical therapy, 5 of which I was able to attend. Last week, on the day of the appointment, I was ill and had to cancel. Today was the 5th one I attended. My knee is slowly beginning to feel better, but not my back. My Physical Therapist gave me a couple of back exercises that hopefully I can do without more pain resulting. I have 37 days to get rid of all pain and all sickness to enjoy my trip home to NJ for a visit starting say after Christmas (the day I leave). I am determined. I am going either way, but would be nice to be healthy and pain-free for my trip, and for Christmas. I suffer from asthma since I was 11 and also anxiety and my asthma is allergy induced, and I live with my allergies at the moment (a Siberia Husky dog my sister owns, and then outside I'm allergic to pollen), and anxiety has been a problem since an incident back in May...that I'd rather not talk about. But I am getting treatment for all of the above and hoping God will help heal me fully so I'm not miserable or in pain for the holidays or new year coming up. Thanks for taking time to read this.

Welcome to our community NJAngel83! I'm sorry to hear of your injuries. We are a warm hearted group who has many types of chronic pain, from many walks of life & beliefs, and who require various types of treatments. Being diverse in every aspects, we are all alike in suffering chronic pain... we understand. I too am a believer, and I pray for everyone here. And for the few who have asked me not to, or stated beliefs different from mine, I respect their rights, and they respect mine. This is a no judgement zone because it's not about our beliefs. It's about our pain. We rant, cry, laugh, pray for, give advice and offer support for each other. Everyone is welcome here.

I'm 54 and have had some sort of chronic pains since my 20's. I now have degenerating discs, bulges and osteoarthritis in my spine, among many other health related issues, so I live with chronic pain. I easily pull muscles in my back now. Speaking from experience, sprains can take a long time to heal. And most of the time when I or my children had sprains, the injuries were wrapped the first week or so. When I sprained my back I was given a back brace that I wore for 3 weeks, and anytime my back felt like it was going to pull again.

Focus on short term goals for recovery, rather than think/saying you want to be pain free. Your back could take longer than 37 days. Just focus on the exercises, one day at a time, believing and having faith that "slow & steady" will help better than overpushing yourself and possibly reinjuring. Also, if you think more of "getting better" than "being pain free", you won't be disappointed and stressed if it takes longer to heal fully. If you weren't given an ointment to rub into the injured areas, you can purchase many brands over the counter; ask the pharmacist for which would be best. Rubbing the ointment in after exercise is how my PT therapist always used it (Biofreeze), and I used ice and heat randomly. I wish you the best outcome and will add you to my prayer list! (((Hugs))) 🙏🌼

NJangel83, welcome to our comunity family. There are no other words that I could possibly offer that weren't already said by my dear friend, Flappsy. I am 50, have been in chronic pain for 22 years, have had 29 surgeries and have several of the same diagnosis as Flappsy. (As a matter of fact, we are so alike, I almost thought I had already welcomed you!! LOL!!) so, I hope that you settle in, kick back and enjoy our company. We are here whenever you need help day or night and regardless of time. We do pray for each other and care for one another and have formed many strong bonds of friendship. This is a wonderful group of people and I'm sure you'll fit right in. Sending you welcoming {{{Hugs}}} and prayers that you have a peaceful day and that you have many blessings along the way.🌻🙏🏻

Great advice and I too love Jesus and can't help share how it effects me. It can be done w love and respect. I prefer sombra to biofreeze I think works better and better smell. You can get on Amaxon a lot cheaper too.

I'll have to find and try the sombra. Biofreeze does stink! Lol🙏🌼
