Coincidence, or am I missing some meds?

Dec 29, 2014 10:41 AM

OK, due to my long list of medication allergies (mostly pain, atibiotics, and anantiinflammatory), I am only taking Tramadol for Rx pain control. I do have a muscle relaxer & migraine meds to use as needed. Mostly I use OTC products for pain along with voltaren gel. Due to a previous ulcer, and side effects from antiinflammatory meds, I was told to stay away from ibuprofen and aspirin products. My doctors haven't prescribed any since the 1990's.

Saturday morning I woke up sick with upper respiratory symptoms. I was already hurting & doctoring for twisted, pulled legs muscles in a near-fall Friday. Due to the cold symptoms I started using OTC products, alma seltzer plus cold & flu along, with afrin for nasal congestion & mucinex DM for chest congestion. I'm really trying not to have an asthma flare up.

When I updated my icon for pain this morning, I was surprised to see the improvement in my all over pain. It has to be the alka seltzer product. I only take it short term, but i wonder if there's an antiinflammatory I could use long term. I have GERD also. Any suggestions would be great, especially for natural products!

Very interesting.... I have GERD as well but never checked my pain levels after using it. I will have to pay closer attention and see if I get some relief. Thanks, I love any new info so I can remain pro-active in my own care. Have a great day!!

Aspirin might be for you if your doctor thinks it's wise. Not sure how it might interact with other medications you take just remember taking NSAIDs could cause rebound headaches. I have to be careful with that with my migraines

Sorry I must have skipped over the part you said no aspirin

That's ok. I do that same thing too... Not seeing what I read. I brush it off as the "fog" (fibro)must have been too thick at that moment! 😉

@donaldbarstow, I do intend to discuss with my doctor. The only problem I seem to be having is ring in my right ear. I'm not sure if it's from the aspirin type med or the head cold, or both.

It could also just be idiopathic partial tinnitus but head cold is more likely

Reece, it probably is the cold but I hadn't thought about tinnitus. I've had that in the past .

That Alka Seltzer product is a good product but I wouldn't take it for too long. I have GERD too & I think that there's something in the remedy that contributes to it. If I were you I would at least talk to the pharmacist.

Have you ever tried Turmeric. It is made from the Ginger root and is a very good natural anti-inflammatory. Available at any health food store or sprouts.

A lot of ppl can use NSAIDs if they take them with a proton pump inhibitor - I had same issue with etoricoxib eating my stomach but PPI means I can use it.

Djones, thanks for the tumeric suggestion. I didn't know that. I know its a spice. Does it come in capsules at the health store?

Jan 03, 2015 10:20 PM

Physiologist, I can't take PPI with allergy injections. I'm not sure why but that's what they told me.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. I'll check out all options, even rediscuss the PPI with my doctors.
