Cold and Fibro

Oct 26, 2016 8:09 PM

Ugh. I have a cold. Big deal right? But i can't take my regular pain meds with cold meds and I have to choose between pain and breathing. Seriously, I hate fibro. End rant.

What do you all do when you get sick??

I have always taken my pain meds even if taking OTC cold meds. My Dr. and Pharmacist both said it was OK. That being said I have such a low immune system I very seldom just get a cold. Its usually allergies to asthma to flu to pneumonia. Never fails and almost always hits me in October or November.

Anytime I want to try something over the counter I talk to my Pharmacist. She almost always can tell if it's compatible and if she doesn't know she has easy access to gain that knowledge.

i take my pain meds and I use Simply Saline Spray to clean out my sinuses so I can breathe. I also take benedryl so that I can breathe easier as well. Just be careful what pain meds you're taking it with because it can make you sleepy. Hope this is helpful. I hope that you feel better soon. {{{Hugs}}}💕😊

Can you try a NeddyPot? A friend suggested it to me when I was so sick & congested. My first reaction was "what the hell is that" but it really did help me. It is tricky at first, but then you get how to use it. I think it is less than $20 and can be used again.

OMG, id much rather use the spray than the netty pot. It's a pain in the ass, messy and I thought I was going to drown myself.... LMFAO!!! Either way, Simply Saline has both options. Feel better soon. 💕

One thing my primary doctor recommended I do is take EmergenC daily during the flu and cold season. It's what he does and so I started doingbtjat this year..

Have you tried steam inhalation? A bowl of steaming water with a few drops of olbas oil and a towel over your head. I think you could even get a electric steam inhalation things, I've seen them but never tried one.

AND you can put a few drops on your pillow when you go to bed.

IF you have an oil burner or an electric diffuser you can mix the olbas oil with water and if using the oil burner light a tea light candle and the room will smell of the oil. If you're using an electric diffuser put it on and again the room will smell of the oil. It's one of the non-medicated ways of trying to clear congestion.

I don't know if where you are they do Olbas oil like here in England. It's a mixture of oils that is meant to help you breath, some of the oils in it are - eucalyptus oil, mint oil, clove oil, cajuput oil and a couple of over oils that I can't remember off the top of my head!

AlwayzinPain --I am so with you on the netting pot. 😄 Simple saline spray meets my needs as well. Interesting that fibro candidates also have sinus/allergy issues as well.

To all who responded to AnnaKT. I ditto all the love, wisdom and support of your posts and add mine as well AnnaKT.
