Constipation from meds

Mar 01, 2016 12:38 AM

What do you do to combat the constipation from meds? I have IBS-Alternating so taking a laxative is not ideal. Does anyone have any natural ways to get things moving?

The nurse had me take prune juice and microwave it for like 20 seconds and I had a good bowel movement, not difficult within three hours. I am sure it would not be like that for everyone. But I think it was important to warm the prune juice.

Terri.. I do use actual coffee it is a natural laxative. But for me since I knew constipation nwoikd be an issue. I increased my veggies intake like litterly I eat two large salads a day I drink green and chamomile tea both are good on kidneys and liver and helps to ease digestion. I est high whole grains and wheat products drink plenty of water. Three 16 oz bottle s a day or more. And flax seed

Thank you so much everyone! Caffeine is a trigger for my migraines so coffee is out. Enemas scare me! I increased my water intake today. I will try drinking tea and increasing my veggie intake. I have never had prune juice. Does it taste okay?

For el'naturale, 1st try the warm prune juice after drinking plenty of water. I use Mira-Lax(generic). It's not a stimulant but loosens stuff up.

Pear juice works for me and i like the taste better than prune juice. Warm it up the too.

Mar 02, 2016 8:01 AM

Prunes taste good and would help it you gave them a chance

Liquorice works for me, it gets things moving but doesn't send you to fr the other way. Senna etc have to much an effect on me so liquorice is my option .

Warm prune juice and Colace for me. But I recently started taking probiotic pills and they are seem to slowly be working too. I'm going almost everyday when I use to didn't go for a week at a time.

I tried the ones I listed and ended up the other direction. It'd such a fine line between IBS-D and IBS-C. GRRRRR!

I have found that flax seed sprinkled on my salad or yoghurt works for me. Don't know why, but it does. Like about 1/2 tsp.

Try epsom salt baths or creams

Prunes & blueberries : start with a little bit and keep adding until you find the perfect amount and then keep taking that amount or eating that amount or juicing that amount. That's what I did to help my husband who had really bad IBS.

We buy fiber one bars at costco and i eat a bar everyday. And i stopped taking tums for my agrevated stomach.

Mar 07, 2016 9:15 AM

Raisin bran to get u going. If it gets too bad then I use glycerin suppositories it's more of an immediate help within 5 to 10 minutes. I've tried miralax it worked for a short time

Mar 07, 2016 9:52 AM

I use Metamucil as needed and stool softners as i cant use laxatives they give me diarrhea. I also gave up pain killers for other options they were one of the biggest culprit.

Mar 07, 2016 9:16 PM

I've tried everything except laxatives and an enema this time. It doesn't seem to be working. Maybe my new normal is going once every 3-4 days.

Mar 08, 2016 4:24 AM

Poop fairy recommends milk of Magnesium, 30cc every twelve hours until the desired effect, increase your water intake as well as activity, ie....walking. Love and poop blessings, Terri

Mar 08, 2016 7:38 AM

I take Metamucil daily it works alright for me!

Mar 08, 2016 8:49 AM

Terri someone gave me the fixins for a Coffee enema. Had never heard of it before. I did not use it. I feel for those who can not go regularly. I go several times a day so I couldn't imagine being bound up like that. I have a friend who takes diabetic meds and it makes her go nonstop... To the tune that she has lost 55 lbs. and her doctor does not want to change her med or take her off. Prune juice is another natural... Depends on your taste buds if you like it. Well I hope you find something that works. Natural would be better than more more meds since that is the cause anyway. Happy Pooping!!

Magnesiun and tons of fiber. I don't eat enough to go daily, generally.
A friend said she became surprisingly regular on coconut water, which is so good for you in many ways.

Mar 08, 2016 10:23 PM

I've been drinking water like crazy! I will have to start taking magnesium!

Mar 09, 2016 6:31 AM

Have you ever heard of molasses? I add that to water whenever I'm constipated and within hours it gets things going. It's also very good for you aswell

Mar 09, 2016 11:03 AM

As was mentioned before prune juice is very good , mineral oil is good if nothing else works , take it before bed & it works in the morning but also aloe Vera gel in your juice every morning is also a natural laxative

Mar 09, 2016 11:05 AM

Id like to add that aloe is also good in general for alot of things! Taken orally it works on stomach ulcers !

Mar 09, 2016 1:19 PM

I may have to try a laxative or enema. I haven't pooped in 5 days :(

Mar 09, 2016 1:39 PM
