What have you tried so far? If you haven't already, try prunes with lots of water or prune juice. I also take a supplement Coloclear which has natural ingredients that help speed digestion and passage of food though the gut.
I have IBS and use to drink metamucil every day, then I became allergic to wheat & whole grain. Because of my PFD I need additional fiber to assist my system. I heard about a product and tried it, then ordered 3 containers for the price of 1 on amazon. Its pure, natural, "India Psyllium.". It works great but if you forget to drink enough water it can also cause constipation. I've been on decongestants & antihistamine for aover a week and it's been a problem, regardless of water intake. Its best to add it with a flavored drink, like cranapple or even oatmeal. If you add to drink, drink fast! An old remedy is mineral oil, but don't use it all the time.
Kayo Syrup works any pharmacist can give you a dose. Fiber pills like 6 to 8 with a full glass of water. You have to drink lots of water or the fiber will just add bulk and add to your problem. My suggestion would be a mild stimulant laxative with a stool softener when it is really bad. Then take fiber pills daily with water. On the plus side the fiber pills will improve your cholesterol extra bonus. Change to a mainly plant based diet also makes a healthy difference. Good luck.
You could try movicol. It is macrogols, 8 sachets + 1 litre of water for 3 days and it will fix all of your problems (well the toilet ones). I'm on them at the moment and they completely clear you bowls of build up to prevent and treat constipation. You can get them OTC (from a pharmacist) or by prescription
Hey D-mouse, just curious if you took care of your "plumbing problem". I am like the queen of constipation (at least 50% of our household conversations are about poop - no kidding) & have a whole arsenal of relief options. Just post if you need more remedies.
My naturopath has me on Magnesium for constipation. She says take as much as you can handle to have a daily gentle and soft movement. I started at 300 mgs and I now take 1000 mg to 1500 mgs a day depending on how things are working. The nice thing about magnesium is that it also helps with mood and with sleep. I make sure to get a brand that has no soy, dairy gluten or other additives as the additives can trigger flare ups.
