Ever heard of Vocal Chord Dysfunction? The anesthesia doctor I spoke with today, just before my cystouretheroscopy, was questioning me about my bronchospasm, coughs, shortness of breaths. When I described what takes place when the sob hits, he turned and said, "You sound exactly like my wife years ago. We thought she had a heart issue but when that was cleared we began to think she had asthma. It turns out she has vocal chord dysfunction." I told him the ENT just scoped a look through my nasal passage, had me do the "aaaa, eeee" sounds, and said he saw no problem. This anest-doc said, "You can tell that way. Your pulmonary doc needs to do it with a broncoscopy." Wow! Just so happens I see them tomorrow!!!
Just updating: my pulmonologist said my vocal cords can't be the issue because the ENT did do the correct test (so the other doc was wrong). She now thinks my asthma inhaler isn't enough so she's changing me to Advair diskus. Going to see how I do, and perform a more in depth breathing test in 2 weeks. Had a sob spell in her presence.
