CatchMyPain Community and Pain Diary App to manage chronic illness

I have had chronic headaches for the past three years but due to many mental reasons i have been afraid of telling my parents. I have also had back and neck pain for quite some time along with occasional pain in my knees/hips. this weekend i spent the entire time in bed/on the couch with a horrible migraine and back/neck pain. I'm now thankfully back to simply normal pain levels but my parents now know about the pain and are trying to get me a doctors appointment. My father, a physician himself, wants me to go to a normal pediatrician but i'm afraid that they won't be helpful and will just tell me to sleep more and eat better. I'm arguing for a specialist specifically for headaches. How should i talk to the doctors and how would i go about figuring out if this is some sort of chronic pain disease (like fibro or CFS which are most likely) or just the physical embodiment of my anxiety and depression?

There's an app called Migraine Buddy. Its similar to this app in that you can track your migraines. It also helps you to identify triggers etc. That would be a huge help when you see your doctor (or specialist) because you can print out the reports And show patterns, intensity and triggers. So you might start with that.

Not sure where you are from but in the US many specialist and insurance companies require a referral from your primary doctor. Not sure if that's your case or not but it may be the reason he wants you to start with your primary doctor.

Occipital nerve blocks have helped mine plus I do have migraine meds that I take when a migraine hits. Excedrin Migraine can often help if I take it at the first sign of a possible migraine. If I have a migraine that lasts more than a day I either call my Neurologist or go to ER for whats called a migraine cocktail. Some hospitals just give a shot but I have found the IV infusion works best for me.

So sorry you are dealing with this. Hope you can get it under control.

Hi Welcome to the community Jay. A pediatrician is a good place to start. He may send you to a neurologist. I'm sorry you're having headaches. They could be from your neck and back pain. I hope you get it resolved. (((hugs)))
