Diet And Fibro

May 10, 2017 3:00 PM

Does the way you eat really affect flares and symptoms? I was just wanting some feedback. I know everyone's different, but I was just curious. I've been in a bad flare for days now, but I haven't been eating very much. Just don't have the appetite, and I feel nauseous every morning.

I went gluten free and it cut my pain in half. There is also supplements you can take like magnesium.

One of my good friends has fibro also, but unfortunately for her she said diet doesn't affect her at all. Like good or bad.

Hi Shmegs, I have fibro and cfs and I have to say in all honesty diet doesn't affect me. Although alcohol doesn't agree with me anymore.

I cut out gluten, dairy, peanuts, sugar, and processed foods. Would have loved to see it help, but it really didn't and it made life so much sadder lol. I still don't eat gluten or peanuts due to new allergies, but the world seems slightly better with cheese and sweets from time to time.
Long story short, I think it varies from person to person

Not so much diet at this point, but when it rains I have huge flare ups. Extreme Fatique, pain, I can barely walk. Just want to rest as if I've not slept in days.

Yes I've been easing out of the caffeine. Seems like magnesium is a great thing to try too. I've been taking vitamin d as I have a very severe vitamin d deficiency as well. I've been meaning to try gluten free. My doctor told me to try the Mediterranean diet, and I've done like a slight tweak of it. I don't know the difference other then I've lost weight which is good I guess.

I have gone gluten free. It doesn't do much for my pain levels but I have more energy to work with the pain levels. I did try being dairy free and night-shade vegetable free which helped but my dietician said that gluten was the only evidence based item she could recommend.

I've been taking magnesium malate which is magnesium with malic acid which is supposed to be good for muscles. I take it at bedtime with my calcium and it has helped a lot with restless legs.

I've been eating more on the run, hectic, grab quick fast food for 3 months. I feel like crap and my body stress has sent me into a fibro & Sjogrens flare. On top of the all over pain, my tongue & mouth is cover in pinprick bumps that tingle, burn and hurt (sjogrens-burning mouth). I knew all the stress and bad eating would catch up to me sooner or later.

Diet has a HUGE impact on my pain. I have fibro and arthritis. I'm allergic or sensitive to a lot of meds, so I try to treat things naturally. I eat a whole food, plant based diet (nothing processed or deep fried). I've also found there are certain foods that are pain triggers for me (soy and grapes). For me, food is medicine. After two years of diet changes my inflammation markers went from 90+ to 2. No meds involved. This basically eliminates arthritis (it feeds on inflammation) and allows me to focus on getting my fibro into remission.

Wow thanks so much. I'm so glad it's helped your arthritis! I hope that you're able to get you're fibro in remission as well. I've been struggling especially with my tummy lately.
