I finally got seen by a rheumatologist, after 6 years. I went in hoping for an answer as to my chronic pain, but I walked out more irritated. The rheumatologist doesn't know why I have chronic pain, he said that I could have the start of fibro myalgia but only have 6/14 pressure points or I could have my own disorder. His suggestion is to try Lyrica or Cymbalta and physio. I became most irritated when he pulled up a copy of my MRI report for a slipped disc in which my neurosurgeon said it was not touching nerves so it can't hurt that bad. While come to find out I have a complete herniation at T11-T12, Degenerative Disc Disease at T11-T12, and spinal cord & nerve impingement (pushing on both Spinal cord and nerves). Now I'm completely lost as to where to turn next or completely give up. I need suggestions or support.
Get a second opinion from a more competent neurologist or neurosurgeon. I had a neurologist tell me nothing was wrong with my neck, two weeks later i saw a neurosurgeon and he did emergency surgery because my spinal column was being compressed. He said i could have been paralyzed at any moment.
I have also had my pain belittled and made to feel like there is no help. The problem is there's no concrete test for most of these chronic disorders. It's just the doctors best guess. It's very frustrating. As a teenager I tried many meds. And now I prefer to deal with the pain rather than deal with the side effects.
I am also undiagnosed😐 it could be RA, Lupus, Fibro.....who knows? But my rheumatologist is also probably the most unsupportive and unsympathetic person ever! Is there a forum or board we can lay a formal complaint at?
I am also looking for a new doctor!
So you are not alone.... will keep you posted on a good doctor if I get one! ❤️
