Does anyone have RLS?

Nov 25, 2015 1:42 AM

Just curious if anyone has Restless Leg Syndrome... ?

Nov 25, 2015 1:51 AM

I don't have RLS but I do suffer with hypnagogic jerks. I can be trying to relax or sleep and all of a sudden my arms or a leg or my entire body will jump and startle me out of falling asleep. After a few times of that happening, it would have completely woken me with no hope of ever going back to sleep that night. Have you gone to a neurologist and had a workup done so that they can find out why you have RLS and give you some medication to help alleviate the symptoms? I hope that you can get some help and that you don't have to deal with the frustration of that condition for much longer. Sending you best wishes, {{{Hugs}}} and prayers. Feel better soon.🌻🙏🏻

Honestly I haven't been dx with it. I've just thought maybe I had it since I have all the symptoms but I've never said anything to anyone because I never knew what Dr to discuss it with. I see my psychiatrist in about 6 hrs (hopefully I can fall asleep AND wake-up in time) and was thinking about mentioning it to him. Idk. I feel weird about telling a Dr what I think I have. I guess I don't want to seem paranoid.
Right now though I'm just so angry that I can't fall asleep and nervous I'll end up being late.
I cant stop moving my freaking legs, my wrist is killing me, my anxiety won't go away... I'm just not in a good place right now... mentally or physically.
My husband is snoring and so are my other family members in the next room (they're only here for the holidays) and I feel left out on this awesome thing called "sleep".

I hear you.. Loud and clear!! I have spent many a night laying here awake thinking everyone else is sleeping a peaceful slumber and I'm all alone here and awake. It can be very disheartening. Speak to your doctor. You don't need to offer an opinion on what you think you have, that's his/her job. Just be forthcoming with all of your symptoms, triggers, what makes it better or worse, etc. Let them figure it out.. They will with time and patience. I know right now you're not in a place to hear that or even want to deal with it but we're here for you. Hang in there and know that I'm just a keystroke away. {{{Hugs}}} and prayers.🌻🙏🏻

I think I might, but must doc's have thought it a symptom of ADD

Nov 25, 2015 11:43 AM

Ok ferret. I never thought about that! Thank you! I have ADD and take vyvanse for it but I've only recently been having crazy symptoms. I will look into that!

Want, no I've never been diagnosed with RLS but I do have a tendency to jerk at night. Could be sound asleep and next thing I know, my right foot just starts twitching and jerking. Some nights it's bad enough that I feel like I'm falling out of bed but I haven't. It's just really irritating.

Nov 25, 2015 12:24 PM

Amanda that's basically what happened to me last night from 9 pm until I passed out around 5 am. I was having muscle spasms in both legs and they just kept getting worse (my anxiety probably didn't help it). I put a heating pad under my thighs and got a bit of relief but not much. I have some caraspadol (I think that's what is called, it's for muscle spasms) and didn't think about it until just now. But guess it's a good thing I didn't take it late because I probably would've slept in way too late. I think I'll take some tonight and see if it helps!

Nov 25, 2015 1:01 PM

Amanda, that's the hypnogic jerk I told you about. It can ocurr in any part of your body.

Nov 25, 2015 1:32 PM

@Alwayz, any way to get it to stop? My sister used to think I was kicking her in bed on purpose. Now I know, I wasn't.

Nov 25, 2015 1:53 PM

Wantanswers, I'm sorry you're having a rough time with insomnia. I was too, for 9 years, until my psych doc increased my antidepressant. He kept doing blood tests to check my blood levels and when my serotonin leveled out I was on triple the original dose. I still get occasional insomnia, or short episodes, but no where near as bad as it was.

I do have a combination of RLS & hypnogogic jerks in my legs only, usually brought on by overtired legs &/or muscle cramps. My PCP just gives me muscle relaxers to take as needed. Like AlwayZ said, just tell the doctor your symptoms, occurrence patterns, etc. And let them know you have ADD. Good luck, with hugs & a prayer! 🙏🌼

Yes I have it and most of the time I can't move.

Nov 25, 2015 10:49 PM

I was diagnosed with it several years ago. Legs jerking all night, unable to sleep comfortably, felt like ants or bugs were running up my legs all night. During the day constantly had to move my legs, everyone just thought I had a nervous tick and couldn't sit still.

Nov 26, 2015 10:39 AM

My legs used to wake me up at night something fierce! Two things that have been major helps for me: 1-My endo changed the diuretic that my PCP had me on to aldactone. It doesn't deplete potassium the way others do.
2-My new PCP, after diagnosing vestibular migraines, gave me a (LONG) list of food triggers to avoid. On that list were dried fruits (I ate raisins daily) and commercial wines that have *added* sulfites. (They have to say on the label if they add them). Turns out that sulfites in your diet also cause leg cramps at night. Who knew?! So since I've made these changes, it's one less problem that keeps me up at night! 😊
Everyone is different, so I can't say that this is something that will or won't help anyone else; but I know that the wine especially caused a lot of leg pain at night! I hope you find what's causing yours and can get some quality pain-free, anxiety-free sleep!

Nov 26, 2015 3:40 PM

Thanks! I will definitely check into that!

Nov 26, 2015 3:52 PM

Thank you Alwayz, I had no idea there was a name for what happens to me at night! Or at least one of the things that happens to me at night lol. I have that, insomnia, sometimes instead of the jerk it will be a sudden anxiety attack, my husband says I sometimes flail, talk, scream, swear lol. Oy.

See a sleep doctor or a neurologist.

Nov 26, 2015 11:46 PM

I have rls, I'm on medication for it. But the Dr. Said if I would drink seltzer water every night before bed that it helps a ton. I'v tried it and it does help but my medicineworks better.

Nov 27, 2015 2:33 AM

I should clarify that my migraines are a separate thing from the night time leg cramps. I noticed that when I cut extra sulfites out of my diet, combined with the change from potassium-sapping diuretic, it completely stopped my night-time leg cramps

Nov 27, 2015 2:47 AM

I'm actually up right now because my sister got engaged today, and while we were at my sister in law's for dinner we drank a few toasts to the happy couple and to my nephew who is leaving for the navy... I suppose I should have asked to read the bottle first! 😒

Nov 27, 2015 7:57 PM

I have RLS. my pcp gave me the gabapentin for it. It helps me big time. Once in a blue moon I may have to get up and take and extra one to be able to go to sleep.

Dec 01, 2015 1:40 PM

My friend had RLS and said she is supposed to take gabapentin also but she doesn't bc it makes her sick. Do you have any side effects?
Also how would I go about getting a dx our at least finding out what else it may be?

Dec 01, 2015 1:53 PM

I am pretty sure I have it. Rarely can I keep my legs still when laying or sitting
