Does it ever go away?

Jan 14, 2016 1:59 PM

I was just diagnosed yesterday with Lupus. I have had some joint pain and a cough that does not go away. I began with swollen joints.. After a week, the swelling went down. Now my pain is more soreness than anything. Does this pain ever go away :(

24goingto80, I don't have lupus so I can't answer from that standpoint. I was dx with fibromyalgia in 2012, but symptoms first appeared in 2007. I was dx with Sjogrens & hypothyroidism last year, and I've had osteoarthritis for 25+ years. I have to honestly say the fibro pain is always present in tender points & muscles. The OA pain is also always present in my spine and knees. The sjogrens symptoms of dry eyes, mouth, & nose are always present. But I only started to develop joint pain and swelling a few months ago from it, and as of right now these symptoms come & go.

I take it easy when I'm having a flare, no matter which disease it is. It takes time to learn to identify your limits, flares, what to modify and when to say "stop & rest." I wish I could offer more help. Others on here with lupus may be more able to help you, with suggestions. You can count on a lot of support. Someone is usually online day and night. Hugs & prayers! πŸ˜·πŸ™πŸŒΌπŸ’•

24goingto80, welcome. I think you'll find this group to be very supportive. I don't have Lupus but have friends that do and I'm so sorry for your challenges. I have RA, OA, sjΓΆgrens, cervical spinal stenosis, bulging discs in my neck, small fiber peripheral neuropathy, which causes nerve pain all over my body. I also have fibromyalga and other things, but you get the most.
I will be seeing a neurologist on Tuesday that I swore I'd never see again after he treated me like a lowlife idiot the last time I was in there. This time he will see me on my terms though. I will start our appt reminding him that I am the one paying him $180 and I will expect answers that are respectful and not while he has his hand on the doorknob ready to rush out after 2 minutes of checking my reflexes.
My 6 yr old granddaughter can do that!
You hang tough. You came to a good place for support. I've tried others and this site is by far, more helpful and compassionate. We will pray and support you through your journey. You're not alone here. We all know what pain is. Love and hugs to you. xoxo

24goingto80... Isn't it interesting that in most of these comments, they have fibromyalgia?!? It is very similar to lupus and even sometimes the Fibro is actually lupus!
My pain began when I was 29. I am now 52!!!! I read & hear many Fibro people talk about having flares and good days. I hate to be the downer here but I have not had one day pain free in many years! Pain meds just don't help & I've been on some very strong ones. Keep moving even at a slow pace. If not your muscle tone will decrease & not only is it debilitating but in time it will cause more health problems! Same is true with your joints!! I know it's painful but it's necessary! I'm new here too but I see a lot of love & support! Read as much as possible about your diagnosis! Be educated! You should try physical therapy or water therapy. And most of all... I know what it's like to be so young and have your world turned upside down! I haven't completely understood this site but if possible feel free to privately connect with me! I lost all of my friends bc of my pain & exhaustion. I lost who I was! I couldn't do or be the person I had always been. In a flash my life went from 29to80!!
To sleepingbeauty, do you have to see the same neurologist? My regular medical Dr was so uninterested in me, it was unreal! You should find a more supportive Dr! Kick the original to the curb! You can do it! πŸ‘πŸ’ͺπŸŽ‰
God bless and keep you in His arms each one of you! Pain sucks!!! Kathy
