I just started using this app, I'm hoping it will help me communicate with my new Dr .I have a bad habit of feeling instantly pain free whenever I go see a Dr, I also lose all ability to describe my pain, even when I was in so much pain on the way to see the Dr that I was founded over crying ! Anybody else have this problem and maybe some advice for me ?
I forget when I get there what I was going to say or miss important things out. I'm writing a list ready for next appointment so I can go through everything as I feel they are not listening or doing much for me xx
Thanks I'll try that. For some reason when a Dr comes in the room and asks me how I'm doing I forget everything and smile and just say I'm doing good, how are you ?. I just feel so intimidated I think because I know I need to convince this person that I'm in real distress and I'm not just looking to get high! It's like a trial and their the judge and jury!! And I will try my best not to forget my list too. Thanks again..
Use the app for a guide. 1st- Show your doctor your journal. If you want you can give them email access, it only allows them 48hours (I believe) it does not give the doctor forever access. I do not do this because I use my comments for things they do not need to read... 2nd- always make a list I keep a spiral notebook just for this. I write out questions and ideas then jot down notes while we visit during appointment. Also any research that you may have done on your own. I have found if you have a list you do not get rushed by the doctor and end up forgetting to ask something. 3rd- ALWAYS make sure you have a updated medication list including supplements! So many time I have been going over a medication list with my patients and they get this look of 'oops' I have not taken that in 5 months, or worse they glance over and say yep, nothing changed. There are so many times that interactions can occur, just not worth the risk. If you have the kind of arrogant doctor that you cannot be open with find someone else. You need to be part of your team. Remember a doctor is just a person too no reason to be intimadated. Also don't cross your legs it raises your blood pressure, so does having to pee real bad.
I know that feeling. My meds get stopped like today for a review when I only had one 4 weeks ago and 5 weeks before that and a week before that! I'm fuming but I don't want to get angry with the doctors as then I probably sound like I'm cold turkey and desprate when I'm just in so much pain and desprate lol. It's terrible to feel you need to present yourself a certain way due to fear of being a addict for fun. Xx
I so understand where you are coming from. It's like my brain instantly freezes when I see anyone in a white coat. That and my blood pressure spikes tremendously. I do make the list but I tend to forget said list at home.
There's a website idealmedicalcare.org Dr Wible has a blog. One article was 7 tips to get what you need from your doctor. This helped me tremendously with my latest attempt at finding a doctor that would hear me and help. It's a quick and easy read. You won't regret it. Blessings ✌️❤️
Hi Everyone, I see 3 different doctors Rhumetology, Orthopedic, and pain. I type a letter every time I go to my appointments to let them know what I'm going through because I had back, knee, surgery and on top of that I have fibromyalgia I don't know why we have a lot of conditions at the same time. The Lord will heal us from all these conditions.
I echo the others. Make a list and don't leave until your questions are addressed. I have PTSD bc a doctor literally let me bleed to death so I have anxiety every time I have to go to a new one. Best wishes.
