I had dry needling done today in my paraspinal and gluteus muscles. It was very painful and I'm still hurting. I have my usually pain but now it's intensified by soreness from the needles. This is the third therapist I've seen for needling. She seems to be a little more aggressive with the needles, I don't ever remember being this sore from it. Or maybe my muscles are just terribly tight? I'm trying to be hopeful but it is so hard for me to trust physical therapists, after being to several and having no change in my pain. Sorry for the colorful language but sometimes I just want to say f**k physical therapy... If you know what I mean.. And I even though about going into the profession! Ha
They use the same needles as acupuncture but the needles go directly into the tight muscles. It is trigger point therapy. Needles are supposed to release trigger points (muscle knots). It helped a bunch years ago for me. This is my second session most recently and so far I'm just sore but also think my injury is far worse than it was when it initially started 5 years ago. Have thought about acupuncture but not tried.... Needles freak me out. I'm a fan of the song and have been a dancer all my life. My mom, a dancer as well, had the nickname tiny dancer when she danced professionally. We are both petite people with the same passion.
My sister went through several sessions of dry needling. She said one was extremely overzealous, causing more than normal pain after. Talk to the therapist and tell them to back down some next time. Have you tried icing the areas to reduce swelling? I can't use ice pack so i do rice socks or gel packs wrapped in a hand towel. I hope you feel better soon. Hugs & prayers! 🙂💕🙏🌼
Thanks I think I will tell her to do a little less.. Although I woke up this morning feeling better. Still pain, but I feel like something let go inside me.. Which is a great feeling :). Thanks for the support.
