Sally, why do you think it is hip bursitis? Did a Dr diagnose it as that? I ask because, in the beginning of my fibromyalgia I had horrible pain in my shoulder. My Dr called it bursitis in my shoulder. He told me to do exercises and to ice it. As none of this gave me any relief. Time went by and it got worse then spread to my other shoulder, etc. Eventually he diagnosed me with fibro. I am not suggesting u have fibro. I pray you do not. But if you are in so much pain, I would see a Dr that you trust. That's where I would start.

I have it in both hips and have had several injections done. The injections only help me for almost a week then the pain comes back just as painful. Wish I could offer you some advise but I think you need to see your ortho doc and together come up with a plan. Good luck!

Hi,
I have bursitis in both hips. To be honest I do not know what is bursitis and what is fibro, all I know it is terrible pain,(by the way I have been formally diagnosed with both). All I did this evening is try a pair of trousers I bought, then bam!! The pain shot through my hips.............................so painful! That's me done, back to lying on the bed until the pain subsides! Can't offer you any help except, I feel your pain!! I've had injections, they didn't do any good, have not found anything really works.
Sorry for ramble:-))

I try to sleep on my back as sleeping on my side really aggravates it. I also find it helps to wear silky pyjamas so that turning over in the morning to get out of bed is easier. & I use a TENS pen (search for "TENS pen pain" to find some) which gives me temporary relief. I also find chiropractic treatment to keep my pelvis level is essential to prevent flares in my hips. Hope these things help you and you get some relief soon

I've had bursitis in both hips & shoulders for the past 6-7 years. I typically get steroid injections at least in one joint each year. Usually it flares up on my left side mostly, and I know its bursitis because I can't stand to lay on the affected side. Most of the time my bursitis flares occur during cold weather.

My doctor recently diagnosed me with Fibro but before all that I began having a sharp radiating pain that begins around my spine in my lower back n wraps down across the top of my hip. It feels as if it's IN my hip joint. I've had both an X-ray and an MRI done on this area n they tell me nothing is torn, broke etc. I find if I do stretches and use a HOT moist heating pad or hot pack it seems to alleviate most of the worse pain for a while. Doesn't take much tho for it to come back.
