The shooting pain from your lower back to your hip sounds like sciatica. Sciatica almost always happens as a result of a pinched nerve caused by a herniated disc. Sciatica almost always happens on only one side of the body.

i have spondylosis threwout my whole spine. i looked up sciatica an there were some other conditions as well. how bad can sciatica get? can it b dibilitating? cause at this point i feel like it can be.

i dont have a herniated disk. but i do degenerative spondylosis. from cervical to lumbar an sacrum. reckon where them joints meet up at hip joint. my hips were outta alignment when i went to PT an i felt like i was walking crooked. so PT lady put my hips er whatever she called it back in tha right posistion an alignment. an it was my right side now that i think bout it.

Sciatica can become debilitating, and the pain can get so bad that for some people the only option is to go to the ER. Degenerative Spondylosis is another term for Degenerative Disc Disease or Osteoarthritis of the spine. Degenerative Disc Disease can cause bone spurs on the vertebrae of the spine, which can also pinch the sciatic nerve and cause sciatica.

You can try over the counter anti-inflammatory medications (Acetylsalicylic Acid, Ibuprofen, and Naproxen), and muscle relaxants(Chlorzoxazone, and Methocarbamol). Stretching and using a TENS machine may also help.

If those suggestions don't work you'll want to see a doctor because you may need stronger medications or medications that treat nerve pain such as tricyclic antidepressants.

Important note:
If you start experiencing multiple of the following, you need to go to the ER immediately.
♦ Saddle Anesthesia: Numbness or "pins and needles" in your groin/genital area or inner thighs
♦ Bladder or bowel problems: involuntary urination/defecation or inability to do so
♦ Inability to use one or both of your legs
♦ Severe, unbearable back pain

The likelihood of this happening is close to zero, but it can happen. These symptoms are known as a condition called Cauda Equina Syndrome which is damage to the nerves in the lower spine.

So right AmbrielleLyn! I have all the above and get sciatica on a regular basis. Sometimes it’s the right side...sometimes the left side. Painful as all get out! Sorry to hear of your pain mudduck! I understand it well and wish you didn’t have to suffer. Sounds more like your DDD etc of your spine. It is very difficult to deal with. Unfortunately . Are you on any Gabapentin for Nerve Pain? Hope you can get medications that can help a little. Sending you πŸ€— and hoping your sciatica calms down.
