fibro and alcohol????

Mar 08, 2018 7:15 AM

so i was in 1,200 mg of gabapentin which caused uncontrolable anger an inpatience so i cut down to 600mg. i feel better mentally now. but when i was taking 1,200 mg i could drink alcohol an b fine as far as body pain. but made anger worse. also before i started gabapentin i was havin trouble when drinking. my feet would swell an itch an pain would run steady threw my toes. id swell up all over my body. felt very crappy. now i have cut down to 600mg i again am unable to drink alcohol. i swell all over. my feet swelling tha worst. an again pain shoot threw my toes awful like. my stomache gets very sick as well. ( which was not happening when i was on 1,200 mg ). so my point is has anyone else noticed they cant drink alcohol without a high mg of meds to help with pain an swelling? I realize this sounds odd. but its true. i cannot even drink wine.
THANKS for any response I recieve cause im baffled over this.

It's odd that alcohol would make you swell, and that taking medication prevents you from swelling when drinking alcohol. Gabapentin can cause kidney problems causing swelling of the hands and feet, but that's the opposite of what you describe.

Hi some people with fibro can’t drink (me included I shake & feel like I’m going to pass out for 3-4 days) it is a side effect of fibro it’s like the pain, the brain is telling us we have pain when there is not always an injury & when we drink the brain is just telling our body to react to it so when you take a higher dose it is masking the reaction to the drink & the pain. That’s how I understand it anyway & that’s why I haven’t had a drink in nearly 7 months

I can’t drink anymore at all . I end up in excruciating pain for days and I can’t move . Once the alcohol wears off the slightest bit I need my meds I get so sick and dizzy and I’m shaky end up ill for days xxxx

I read an article recently that stated that alcohol and sugar are two things that increase inflammation in the body. Wonder if others find it to be true?🌹

“Eight Food Ingrediants That Can Cause Inflammation!” By the American Arthritis Association online Both Sugar and Alcohol are on the list.

I'm don't have fibro but haven't had a drink since the fractures in 2016. I haven't missed it but my life is not the same since then. We're not in Kansas anymore Toto.

When I first tried gabepentin the first couple months were ok, but then my hands and feet started swelling up so bad that I couldn’t put my shoes on. I went to the dr and he said I had developed an allergic reaction to it so now I can’t take it anymore.

I take 600mg and my back will be in pain depending on how much i drink for the next 2 days but it more nerve pain. No swelling. Ur not really suposed to drink a lot with gabapentin. My bottle says avoid or limit alcohol while taking it sucks being a 22 year old who is in pain after having some drinks with friends.
