Fibro and constipation

Dec 08, 2015 5:53 PM

Just wondering if anyone else has suffered.
I was released from hospital Tuesday morning where they discovered (after giving me panadine forte, oxycotin and something else for pain. Which didn't work!), my whole intestine from top to bottom is like concrete.
The pain is seriously worse than contractions during labour! I have something now to help move it all along and stop the cramping.
I'm wondering if it was the combination of Naltrexone and a half a tramadol tablet.
So if anyone is free I'm (once again), flat on my back due to this plus the normal aches and pains. A chat would be great as I'd completely forgotten about the pen pal deal. Must get onto that too.......🌼

I am sorry to hear you have this issue. Has your doctor not given you anything to help keep you clear in that area. Might be helpful to call and ask. Since u had surgery I'm not sure what to suggest. I do green tea and other herbal teas plus I eat a high fiber diet but not sure if you could do all that

I have IBS as a part of my fibro, so sometimes constipation, sometimes the other.b bit opioids our opiates (are they the same?) can also cause constipation. I also have no gall bladder so all I have to do is east something fatty and greasy, or a big steak and my constipation goes away like magic. The fairy of poop is grease or coffee.... (Was that gross? I just can't tell anymore)

I have the same problems it part of the fibromyalgia I take linzess it works real good for me it like a detox my constipation so bad without the linzess no bowel movements the pain come on bad when you constipated

wow, just read what I wrote about the fairy of poop...guess I really shouldn't re read entries that I wrote under the influence of pain and pills....lol... which is always, so....no rereading.

I think we get either constipated or "the other way" (heehee) for a couple of reasons. One is medications. Another can be associated with IBS which is where you are either constipated or "the other way".
I have had issues with both and then started taking a probiotic which has really helped me.

Wow! Thank you all. A great insight into the world of fibro and poop!!😁 sorry newfibrogirl I should have said before I haven't had surgery. My partner took me into emergency because the pain was so excruciating.
I only wish that they'd given me an enema. It would have solved the problem there and then.!!
My mum has given me some fibre pellets that are awful and you drink then down with water plus this liquid that has no smell but looks like thick oil. They seem to be working very slowly (reckon I've pooped about a cup and a half today😳)
The buscopan forte for the cramping spasms are not working as well.
Lets see what happens tonight ......
And thank you all again. I wasn't sure if the two were related but now I'm convinced. ☺

I know from experience that tramadol backs me up. I agree with the grease. Also squash seems to do the trick for me. Hope it gets better!

There is an issue we deal with called OIC.. (Opioid induced constipation). They do make a medicine for it. I can tell you that Miralax works too. Last month I went almost a week without going, did a couple of marbles and then didn't go for another week!! I was scared I had a blockage. Well, fortunately it all passed. Normally I don't get backed up because I drink a lot but I was away doing a lot of physical stuff with the horses and didn't drink enough. Oh well, I hope that you get to feeling better and that the poop fairy comes to visit soon. {{{Hugs}}} and prayers for a more comfortable day.πŸŒ»πŸ™πŸ»

Still laughing at the poop fairy. I'm thinking it's going to become a common thing now. thinking about posting it on my Facebook status lol. "Wishing for the poop fairy!!!!"

Dec 09, 2015 4:17 PM

Yes I'm lovin the poop fairy but she still aint lovin meπŸ˜”
Another painful night of cramps, shuffling to the loo incase the fart that was building followed through. All to no avail. Fart went pft and nothing else.

Dec 09, 2015 4:31 PM

I found what works for me is smooth move tea. It works..

Dec 10, 2015 2:26 PM

Ok, this is going to be so much more info than anyone wanted but, that fairy visited me today. She apparently was p o'd because of my frequent requests lately. I got both ends of the spectrum and all at once. I'm miserable and have no idea of anything I can take that won't either stop it completely (please not again lol) or make it worse (cuz o.m.g. lol). How do you get her to make a friendly compromise????

Dec 10, 2015 2:33 PM

LMAO!!! You're going to have to just let nature take its course and empty you out. If you have nausea with it, ginger ale, banana, etc.. Keep hydrating to keep everything moving. Last time that happened to me it was too wide and got half way and stopped.. I thought I was going to have to go to the doctor and had no idea HOW I would go about that trick with what was going on...LOL!!! Someone suggested a paper towel and a good pull. I sat there an hour before it finally decided to end my suffering and evacuate!! I hope you feel better!! 😳😜

Dec 10, 2015 2:53 PM

So I'm thinking that the fairy suffers from serious PMS. Or she's bipolar or both.... Thank you, I have ginger tea (it's kinda gross), but you think that'll help?

Dec 10, 2015 3:01 PM

It should!! Just make sure to keep hydrating to keep everything moving and since you went it should keep on. BTW.. I would go for bi-polar!! LOL!!

Dec 10, 2015 3:08 PM

Peppermint tea is very good for tummy troubles 😊. As far as OTC products are concerned, for constipation, I would recommend Colace, a stool softener. Just make sure not to get the laxative version. Just the stool softener.

For days when your constipation is so painful your calling it by your exes name Milk of Magnesia is the way to go. It can work in just 30 minutes.

Good luck! 😝

Dec 10, 2015 3:37 PM

Amie, I damn near just wet my pants when you said you call it by your ex's name!!! That's the funniest thing I heard in a while!! I can't believe we have an entire thread going and it's all about good old πŸ’©!!! Too much..πŸ’•πŸ™πŸ»πŸŒ»

Dec 10, 2015 4:28 PM

I'm glad it made you laugh πŸ˜€. I have my moments lol, happy this one is written down for posterity πŸ˜‹.

I know right! What a thread. Heh, I wonder how many euphemisms ppl have for it lol. I've thrown the gauntlet ppl. Time for the poop scoop πŸ€“

Dec 10, 2015 4:54 PM

Foreclosing on Mr. Brown! Ha! Never heard that before lol

Dec 10, 2015 4:56 PM

I sorta made that one up in a brain fog moment... Lol *blush*

Dear Ouchithurts,
Depending what kind of situation you are in whether temporary or chronic?
I have always had this problem. Genetic. It has been common to not have a bowel movement for 1 to 3 weeks. My husband said that is probably making things inside me toxic😳 medication and food sitting in there for so long.
I have just been going through a horrific flare. They gave me Narcotics(constipation)and a muscle relaxant(which relaxes your muscles, even bowel muscles). They also wanted me to take something to coat my stomach, reduce acid. The acid in my stomach helps to start breaking down food which I think is important! That's Grade 2 science. So I hadn't pooped for 2 going on 3 weeks. I get so full that I have thrown up, but am usually sick feeling. I don't think the doctor believed me. He said try a stool softener and drink 8 glasses of water. REALLY obviously he is not getting it, it is stuck and it is not going anywhere. I am told I may have ibs, I did have gallbladder out 3 years ago. I can not eat the foods I used to.
The following are some ideas from my naturalpath. Off of the medication now for past 11/2 weeks, on a high probiotic 50 billion, back to low sugar yogurt, I drink lots of water anyway, cut out gluten, milk, cheese. Little meals, little carbs. Stretching, exercise or yoga if possible. I love the soothing feel of fennel tea, lots of hot water. I will take laxatives if needed as a last resort. It hurts. I still have pain but it is better to have pooped. My bowel movements can fill the toilet. If I am well enough I will go to Look at Winners or ikea to shop, all the twisting and good hydration lets me poop. My sister gets the same outcome. She has ibs but not fibro. Going off of bread, milk and cheese is NOT easy!!!
I wish you well, you may need to talk with your doctor.

Dec 10, 2015 10:53 PM

Try grease, coffee and red meat.... Trust me, with ibs and no gall bladder, it's a recipe for big, scary fast foreclosure! Mr Brown won't know what hit him.

Dec 10, 2015 11:28 PM

Everyone is different. I do not have my gallbladder anymore. I can not eat fatty foods it makes me want to vomit. I miss my gallbladder, for me it did have a purpose. Coffee could be an option, but it is a diuretic which can dehydrate you, thus dehydrate your bowels causing pain and no bowel movement.

Dec 10, 2015 11:38 PM

I guess everyone is different cuz both of those things make my intestines into a bullet train track lol.... When I smoked, if I smoked too fast, that was another trigger. I agree about the caffeine dehydrating effect, I just drunk one cup and then lots of warm water. You could always get one of those nasty cleansing things they make you drunk two gallons of before a colonoscopy lol.... I just recently had one and I must say, that part was one of the most unpleasant experiences.... It was so gross, and I was terrified to go more than two or three feet from the bathroom!! Yuck!! I'm sorry you're having such a time of it. Constipation is horrible. Good luck and I wish you the best!

Dec 10, 2015 11:41 PM

I swear, my phone makes me look like I am drunk.... Stupid autocorrect and auto fill are a big pain in my butt!! Lol
