Fibro lost appetite?

Jun 26, 2015 5:59 PM

Hey. Just wondering, all I've eaten all day is an apple turnover and felt relatively full (ate at 1pm). Does anyone else get this or is it just my strange appetite?
It's now almost midnight and I'm starting to feel hungry... Not very handy!

If anything SarahJane87, I eat too often. I'm real bad with cravings under stress. I'm trying real hard to be conscious of it. Just tucked my 2 granddaughters in bed, after a bread & butter with milk snack. It's light but filling. 🙏🌼

It's it hot wherever you are? I know is really hot in my house right now and I'm getting very dehydrated. Then I'm not eating much, unless it's a popsicle or cold water. Or flares are the other times I don't have an appetite, I've lost up to 25 pounds during a flare which has been scary since I'm pretty small anyway. I'm always hungry for a midnight snack though, but it might be from staying up until 4 a.m. every night for the last month. I'd try some ginger, kava root, garlic and Benadryl.

I have ups and downs with eating. Sometimes I can't eat enough, but other times are like yesterday and today where I just feel bloated and sick. I suppose that it's something to do with the IBS part of it too. It's quite warm where I am too. Ferretbandit - what's the ginger, kava root, garlic? Is it supplements?

I get garlic and ginger at the grocery store. I make the ginger a tea, and chew on the garlic and swallow with water as fast as possible. Kava root is sold as part of certain teas, or as a powder or pill. I think kava is a supplement, but I usually just chew the capsules. The one thing with kava is it can make your mouth numb if you chew on a bunch of it at once.
Good luck finding sowing that works, and let me know if you find another treatment that helps you.

I second the kava-kava! It can be surprisingly helpful for anxiety, sleeplessness, tension, etc.! You can find it in commercial pharmacies sometimes and grocery stores "Yogi Stress Relief" I think, is a popular tea preparation. However, the most effective I've found is from reputable online vendors or sometimes local co-ops, of micronized powder or paste of specifically the lateral root, or "waka" grade kava. Just do your homework beforehand and check for any possible interactions with other meds/supps. Sorry for jumping in! Lol

SarahJane, I feel the same way. I am never hungry for breakfast, usually eat a Greek Yogurt and a protein bar for lunch and then a romaine lettuce leaf wrapped around a broiled chicken breast with lemon and pepper for dinner. That is about all I can manage. However, if you looked at me you would think all I ever did was eat. I've already walked down the block (just this past week) and had some idiot yell out the window that the zoo was missing their hippo and they were going to call to have me picked up!! How absolutely depressing.

Ferretbandit - thankyou for that information! Will try to get hold of some :) I'm in the UK so not sure how readily available it is over here.
Mirip - You don't have to apologise, any help is very much welcomed! I'm not on any meds at the moment so don't have to worry about interactions as yet.
Alwayzinpain - I'm the worst for skipping breakfast, I almost never feel like eating anything in the morning! I can't believe how many absolute idiots there are out there with such thoughtless comments. I know it's easy for me to say, but just try and ignore it, you're better than them :)

SarahJane, The bloating and full feeling of IBS can certainly effect you hunger, especially if you're on the constipated side. I am, and due to the pelvic surgery in 2010 my abdominal nerves were effected, slowing down my motility. The doc started me on Linzess last year and now I rarely feel sluggish in the tummy. I hope you feel better soon!

AlwayZ, I'm so sorry you had someone bully you on your weight. Whoever it was, you should have turned and said, "next time I'm hungry I'll eat you for breakfast!" 😉 Jokes aside, some people just can't be nice to others, because they feel so bad about themself.

(((Hugs))) & prayers for you both! 🙏🌼

FlappysLady81 - Thankyou for your message, I am on the constipation end of the IBS too. If I eat too much for lunch, or just something that doesn't agree with me, I'm not hungry for dinner.

Ask your doc about the Linzess. I was miserable for days because of sluggish transit, until I began using Linzess. 🙏🌼

Flappsy, thanks for the message, it really made me feel better. I had another incident a few months back where I had to go to the store for my parents for some groceries and I have a handicapped license plate. When I got to the car and was packing the back with my groceries, some guys were walking by and said really loudly, Oh WOW, I didn't know they gave driver's licenses to elephants!!! I was mortified and there was a lad?y walking by who stopped and yelled at them at how immature they were and if they were so perfect they wouldn't feel the need to make fun of others. I thanked her and she gave me a hug and told me to have a blessed day. I got into my truck and cried. People really have no idea how cruel they are.... Or maybe they do and just don't give a shit!!! If they gave any thought to what could be wrong with someone and perhaps they couldn't help being overweight due to their circumstances, they would be a bit kinder... Although I doubt it.. Scary, isn't it??? I hope you all have a wonderful night and less pain. Sweet dreams.

Yes it is AlwayZ, very sad & scary. I think the world is being desensitized from lack of human connection in communication. You have a blessed night to... And everyone else was well!🙏🌼
