Aug 26, 2015 9:21 AM

I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia but I also has alot of joint pain/swelling.. especially in the hands/wrists and feet/ankles. Is it possible to have both? Am awaiting g Dr appointment to see what he thinks.

I've met dos who diagnose fibro with other things, but it depends on the doc.

The difference will be in the blood work. Fibro gives you all the signs of Lupus but nothing shows in the blood work. Lupus will show elevations in your ANA or other tests I can't seem to remember. So while your Lupus may be in remission ( if they diagnose you with such) you can still suffer with the Fibro.....as is my case.

Typically with Lupus there is the classic 'butterfly rash' it shows up on your face. When I was a child I was always told my Grandmother was allergic to the sun. She would get the butterfly rash on her cheeks. She was always covered with a large hat, scarf and sunblock. Of course gardening was her favorite hobby. So far I have tested negative for lupus but it would not suprised me. The overlap in both conditions is very confusing and frustrating for the patient. Best of luck.

I was just reading about this, and am wondering if i might have lupus, especially with multiple people in my family already having it. I can't stand the sun, some people think I'm a vampire(I wonder sometimes. ...). I'm also sensitive to sunscreen, so I just deal with the pain. I definitely have had the butterfly rash, but never thought anything of it. I think you could be diagnosed with both.
