Finding the right meds

Jun 23, 2015 4:45 PM

Have chronic low back pain and nerve sage in my legs
On 3 -10mg Percocet a day and two Xartemis XR 7.5 in the morning I get refill in a month
Seems like I start off fine in the beginning of the month
Then I have a couple of bad days so I take an extra Percocet which now throws off my schedule for the rest of the month. Have been on allot of things but this works well
Problem do I try to take less Percocet on other days in case I need additional on a bad day
Dr seems to think I should take as prescribe and not bounce around the dosage
But if I need another dose to get rid of pain. Why suffer
I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong ?

Are you me?? Cause this is something I can't get my doctors to understand. OUR PAIN DOES NOT FOLLOW A SCHEDULE!!

You are not wrong. We do what we have to do to live. Doctors need to be trained how to be empathetic again.

C29, none of us react to meds exactly the same way. I'm overly sensitive &/or allergic to many narcotics and related/extended release meds. Even when I'm given the size pack of prednisone, I have to space it out longer of I become a real witch, awake for days, and everybody around me suffered. My PCP understands that, and he told me, if I don't think I need a particular med as prescribed it's ok, so long as I don't abuse and overuse.

I don't think I'm that different from others. I think each of us have different pain thresholds & meds tolerances. So doctors need to stop treating us as if we're clones. Good luck finding and doing what's best for you! Prayers for you! 🙏🌼

C29 I have fentynl patches that I change out every 3 days, I also take Hydrocodn / Acetaminophen 325 / 7.5 for pain. I also have nerve pain I take Gabapentin and Savalla. I get 270 hydrocodn every month some months I have to take more than others my Dr counts out the remaining pills. I don't always have to have them refilled until I get really low. Good Luck

FlappysLady, that sounds just like me on prednisone, although nobody can stand to be around me. And yes, each one of us definetly has our own pain tolerance. Like for me, pain tolerance is very, very low. I might bump something or move the wrong way and be laid up for days. I'm currently not on any narcotic meds cause I just can't tolerate most of them due to allergies/sensitivity. Currently being maintained on ibuprofen 800 mg 3 times daily a.t.c.

Have you ever been to a pain mgmt specialist? One that prescribes meds? Don't go to an Interventional Pain Mgmt, they don't do meds, they do things like injections, physical therapy, etc. Anything BUT meds and they will make you feel like a raging junkie needing a fix if you tell them your pain is not being controlled adequately. Sadly, you will face these issues and unfair assumptions about your intentions and integrity from doctors of all kinds and likely from friends and family that you would never expect from them. Just keep in mind that you have to do what ever you need to in order to just make it thru the day. Remember, All those with the negative attitudes and unfair accusations have no idea what they are talking about and most likely wouldn't last one day going thru what we do EVERY DAY WITH NO REPRIEVE. Until someone has walked in your shoes, or faced similar circumstances, really their words and opinions don't matter or mean squat.

I do go to a pain management dr. So I am sure they have dealt with this before. Very frustrating and afraid to say your in need for how society looks at you. So sad for us who deal with this chronic pain
Anyone had discussion like this with there dr ?

They are clueless... The few that care are penalized for attempting to treat/comfort.
Even pain docs can be real douche bags... Judging, while able to enjoy their life.

If your doctor isn't bending over backwards for you... Get a new one!

Warmest wishes...💕

My dr is awesome. Made me feel like it was ok he was here to help. Did not make me feel bad for shortage of meds. Prescribed new meds and increased amount to make sure I had enough. And encouraged injections for my back. So I feel better knowing someone has my back and understands the pain
5 Percocet a day and 15 mg oxicodone for night
Very grateful

Please, if there is some way to share who and where these doctors are located and our experiences with them, I think we should find a way to boycott the bad drs and provide good drs with our business. I've been to so many drs in my area, I feel I can't trust anyone and they will accuse me of doctor shopping rather than finding the right doctor. If be more than happy to drive 2+ hours to know my doctor won't neglect me!
