First post. Needing support

Hi. I have had chronic back pain for years and have been newly diagnosed with fibromyalgia. My question is this: how do you get help from doctors for pain when they seem to be so concerned with the opioid epidemic that they can no longer see you as an individual? I understand that it is a valid concern, however my pain is also valid. I keep running into ‘yes this is a chronic pain issue, no, there is no cure, we won’t give you pain meds but please let us know if we can help in ANY way!’ My latest experience with that has been over the last two days. I had an epidural injection for back pain, my third one, but this one has been way different. Extreme back pain after and a headache that is worse when standing. The response that I got was ‘it’s not a spinal headache because I would know if there had been a puncture and it will just take a while to calm down. Let us know if we can help!’ Called my pcp, who said to call the doc who did the epidural. Meanwhile I am here alone. In pain. Can’t get up to take care of myself and feeling very pitiful. Advice?

I'm sorry to hear what you're going through, as your in the states so I don't know how the regulations work there but I'm always here to listen. Have you tried a different Dr or perhaps a different approach to manage your pain?

I have a tens unit, lidocaine patches, I have done acupuncture, massage, Rolfing, pt, epidural injections, many medications and I am lying here on a brand new mattress. Everything helps some, nothing helps a lot.

Welcome to the community. Heat helps some people. Maybe a heating pad? If you can get in tub and soak in warm water and 1-2 cups Epsom salt. Maybe a hot shower? TENS unit helps some people. You can get one on Amazon. I hope you get relief.

I'm sorry your not getting much relief but I agree with you that AnimalLover2 Epsom salts are great for fibromyalgia I use them regularly especially the lavender scented ones. Has a Dr prescribed you a muscle relaxer? I have diazepam, can finally have some sort of nights sleep which helps the pain x

Yes, I also love lavender Epsom salts baths. I can’t take muscle relaxers because of a congenital heart defect. I know I would be doing lots better if I could get my stress level under control but that is not in the cards right now so I am just trying to hang in there.
