First rheumatologist appt.

Feb 24, 2016 8:45 PM

Today was my first rheumatology appt since I was officially diagnosed. I think I have found an amazing doctor. He listened to me. Understood my pain was real. Due to my age (26) he said I am presenting all the classic signs of fibromyalgia and is treating me as such (with gabapentin). I thought it was great however that he ordered more blood work to test for just a few more things, just in case. I don't like needles but blood draws have been a regular thing lately. I left feeling hopeful for the first time in a long time. Like I'm not crazy. Like someone understands that I am begging for help. I know im in for the long haul but starting out hopeful is something I need to remember on the really bad days. All in all it has been a good day. Does anyone else take gabapentin? Does it help you? Side effects? I know some of you here probably didn't have a good day today. Aches and pains and maybe you didn't get out of bed... I'm sending you my soft hugs and hope. Don't ever lose hope. We can all do this. You are a warrior!

That's so great Keisha! A really hope, caring doc is harder to find nowadays. Just an FYI, in case you didn't know... Fibro is in the autoimmune (AI) class of diseases. Many patients go on to later develop multiple AI issues. I didn't know this until after I did. I now have fibro followed by hypothyroidism, followed by Sjogrens. And I hope it stops there! Lol I hope you don't either! I'm so glad you have started treatment. 🙂💕🙏🌼

Thank you FlappysLady81! I'm going hold on to this doctor and I even referred him to my mom who has RA.I know it's a really long rough road ahead but I'm feeling really empowered. And that has alot to do with the community here. Reading people's stories and being able to connect with people who understand what you go through and are so helpful... this is a great place.

Glad you found this awesome group. You have a doc who understands and who also doesn't blame every symptom on one diagnosis, great. I have fibro ++ so I can relate. Keep writing. Smiles

KeshiaB, I am so thrilled for you that you were able to leave your appointment feeling uplifted and hopeful. It is, indeed, a wonderful way to begin your journey (albeit a long one). I'm glad that you have confidence in him and that he took the time to both listen and also to take blood to check further for other issues. Sending you gentle {{{Hugs}}} and prayers that your journey continues on a positive note and that the gabapenten helps with your pain.💕🙏🏻🌻
