First time for Paralysis

Nov 22, 2015 6:23 PM

I've been having sciatica in left leg and symptoms of CTS in left arm (though they said I'm negative for Carpal tunnel after a nerve test). A few days ago my left leg, starting right above my knee went completely numb. No feeling at all. No pain anywhere. I was just really scared. I was luckily walking in the hallway do I didn't fall and was able too catch myself and use arms on the walls and hop on right leg and just drag my left leg all the way to bed. I triend stretching and even hitting my leg to seer if I could feel anything but nothing worked. Thankfully the feeling just suddenly came back after about 15 mins our so. I don't know what to do. I have my 1st PM appt on 12/16 but not sure what to do until then. I've had a few other health scares recently that are also new to me. I was extremely dizzy, confused, walking into everything like I was drunk and stuttering trying to talk. My mom came over and checked my blood sugar and it was 85. Pretty sure that's not too low but she gave me some Dr Pepper and I started feeling better. I've recently dated and had blood work to check blood sugar and it was fine. I'm not even sure if this is related. I'm just seeing if this us donating maybe I need to schedule an appointment with my PCP for. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Welcome wantanswers..... ( hope u dont mind the abr) I have had many of the symptoms you had repeatedly in the past. I understand the fear completely. As for advice I would first say try to move up you appointment. For a few reasons. If they give you any new medication you will have more time to adjust to side effect before the holidays. And two it will ease your mind as to what is happening..

Sorry I had a finger twich ..not to mention you dontv want to have these symptoms any longer then you have to. I don't want to speculate on what could be going on with you. But I would say that this gruoo is a great place to come and get information and to share information. Also to vent rant chat and hang out and encourage. This group of people are wonderful and you find and fill the love here.

Of they've ruled out carpal tunnel, what about differential diagnoses with similar symptoms? Your doc is hopefully better than mine, but I had CRPS misdiagnosed as carpal tunnel. Just keep asking questions, and do research, if you can.

I also want to be a bit honest here, reading your post, I thought "oh hey, the nerves are jumping limbs just like when my CRPS spread..." then shivered, but what dx have your neurologist suggested

My neurologist didn't suggest any dx. The only time I've spoke to him was my test. At that time he just said something was lower than normal for my age, around my elbow but that's it. :/

Want, that part about the leg is also a symptom of Tarlov, which over 99% docs say is non symptomatic, if you have one of these lovly cycst in the s region of the spine. You might even have urinary issues, gentile sensations, tingling or stinging in feet, legs, tailbone. Even the sensation of sitting on hot rocks. Never all over or on both sides, never a rhyme or reason to the sensations

Welcome to our pain family @ WantanswersinAR, we are happy to have you. I agree with newfibrogirl. I would see if you could get a sooner appointment.

Thanks Irish!
I've honestly been nervous about going sooner because I've been smoking MJ to help with pain and to be able to sleep, for quite awhile now because I just didn't want to have anything to do with PM or pain medicine for a long time.
I recently stopped so I could hopefully pass the drug test. So I've been trying to get clean and though I'm going to tell them that I've been doing that for pain and sleep (all off my other doctors are very aware that I do this) I don't want to actually have the drug test come back positive for anything illegal. :/ I know it's my fault for doing it in the first place but it's helped me get by for a long time.

Yes the best thing you can do is be honest with your Dr.s before going I would write down everything that you want to talk to your Dr. About. Symptoms, questions, etc. Good luck with everything. Keep us posted on how things go for you. ☺ gentle hugs sent your way.

When you go to the doc, tell them what things you think did help. I know that at one point I went in to my doc, telling her I wanted something like Ibuprofen, because it had been one of the only helpful meds, but made me sick after taking a lot for years.

She gave me Tylenol 3,which is a narcotic, but I came back and wanted to try something else, because it was weaker than ibuprofen, and made me really spacey. She decided I was a drug seeker at that point, but really I had an allergy to Tylenol (probably why it doesn't work) and if I could've continued with Ibuprofen I would have.

I told her about ibuprofen because it had worked in the past, and hopefully a non NSAID could have a similar effect.

Good luck with the doc!
