CatchMyPain Community and Pain Diary App to manage chronic illness

First time posting-trying to use app

Jun 29, 2016 2:02 PM

Hi. I'm 54 years old, female, 5ft4, 221 pounds. I'm in Southern California.
Just started using the app beginning on this month. Still figuring it out.
I have Fibromyalgia, Disk Degenerative Disease, Spondylitis, Osteoarthritis, Severe Depression and Anxiety, Agoraphobia, and I'm Asbergers.
I see psychiatrist, Primary Doctor, a worthless pain management Doctor, as well as a Hemotoligist and bariatric office.
I am allergic to Lyrica and had to stop taking Cymbalta due to side effects after several years. I have no idea if there is anything else out there for fibromyalgia and nerve problems.
I take busperone for depression/anxiety after stopping Abilify (side effect problem). I take Trazadone to sleep at night. I take aspirin daily due to two TIA strokes. I take flexeril occasionally for chronic back spasms.
My current pain management doctor has taken away the 15mg oxycodone I have been taking for about three years or so. It was the only thing that worked to ease the chronic pain. Now I have nothing.
He has given me several injections around my lower back and sciatica nerves but each time I have been in MORE. Pain and none has helped. (I think he is a medi-cal quack personally)
My previous pain management I paid out of pocket. I rarely had an injection but they HELPED.
I have my monthly appointment with my current pain management doctor tomorrow. He sent me home last month with a pamphlet on Suboxone Film that he said he wanted me to start taking this month so I could read about it first. He said I was addicted to oxycodone. So last month I stopped taking the oxycodone to see if I was indeed addicted. NO WITHDRAWAL SYMPTOMS! I'm not an addict and I knew it. I read the pamphlet and it specifically said Patients who are not going through withdrawal should not use Suboxone Film as it can cause Death.
I'm not taking anything that is for withdrawal. I'm going to tell him tomorrow that I need PAIN management from him that works (non opiate is fine, just have to find something that actually works!) or refer me to a different doctor.
Thanks for reading my long post.
If anyone has suggestions for me to look into other meds that may work for fibromyalgia and Chronic pain I'm ready to do research 😜

How does one change that profile picture?

Hi and welcome to the family. You need a new pain management doctor! Addiction and dependence is very real but good lord your dose was small and it does not sound like you abused it or even took it everyday. The scary side od suboxone -it binds with the very same receptors as an opioid so what happens if you have a car wreck and they cannot control your pain....I have been in the medical field for over 20 years and have seen exactly that happen. This is total bullshit being shoved down our throat from our government. Have you tried pot? I am no longer able to work so I do not drug test very often. I am in Texas and marijuana is illegal still here but that has never stopped anyone. Guess I just jumped on my soapbox. Please find a doctor that cares and wants to help you. Welcome to our pain family.

I can use marihuana but the pain management doctor won't let me. He doesn't allow it for any patients in his care. Big huge sign out front and he does pee test before every appointment.
It's legal here in CA. And it works for me. My previous pain management doctor had no problem with me using it.

Welcome to our community family Medusa! I'm sorry to hear what you're going through. Many doctors are refusing to give meds that are on the"gov't watch list," so many patients are lacking the ability to control their pain better. I'm with LMB on you finding another doc, or return to the old one if possible.

When they did your spinal injx, did they do them in a series of 2-3, and tell you to use ice 24-48 hours on & off after? I've had 2 rounds (3 injx each) at three levels in my spine, for cervicogenic & migraine headaches, sciatica & neuropathy pain. Only one of the 18 injx caused more pain, and he's placed that one along the facets. He didn't repeat it because I wouldn't let him.

I'm allergic to many pain meds and only use my tramadol rx for flares/breakthrough pain. Because of my allergies I've built a better tolerance, until it reaches 7-8 or higher. After joining the community I've learned from others about deep breathing & other relaxation methods. I also try to avoid stress or handle it better than I use to. I can't do baths so Epsom salt soaks aren't for me, though I do soak my feet occasionally. And right at this moment my fibro fog rolled in 🤔... so with that I'm sending (((hugs))) & prayers you can find the right doc and pain relief methods for you! 🙂💕🙏🌼

My appointment went amazingly well. He agreed I didn't need the Suboxone. He is referring me to some physical therapy and to get a tens machine. He gave me a script for 'tramadol' to try for occasional pain and Robaxin for muscle pain along with Voltarin topical gel.
Will try it out and see how it goes.
