Forteo

My mom's doctor wants her to do these injections to help build up her bones. She has osteoporosis.

Has anyone here tried this? If so what do you think about it?

Thank you sweetie. Mom has read through the info but still cringed at the thought of giving herself injections every day for two years. Am pretty sure she is going to talk herself out of it. :(

She does Humira but that's only twice a month. She says that if the shots won't help her pain or her bulging discs etc she doesn't see the point in doing them. (sigh) She slept wrong in bed a few months ago and couldn't hardly move when she got up. Turns out she had somehow ended up with a compressed fracture in her back. Forteo helps rebuild bones so hopefully it will help prevent future fractures. I don't know how to get her to understand why this injections important.

My mom has a lot of pain due to back problems, Sjogrens, Lupus, Rheumatoid Arthritis and now osteoporosis. She can't take narcotics as they make her sick to her stomach - vomiting etc. When she absolutely can't deal she will take a pain pill and a nausea pill. Her life consists of sitting in the living room and reading or going to church. Tried PT but she said it hurt too much so she quit. I just don't know how to help her or convince her that the more she doesn't move the more pain she will have.

They (my parents) always dreamed of traveling in a Motor home. A few years ago my dad bought one. She has gone out in it three times. Two short camping trips and one long trip up to Fargo ND to visit her Granddaughter (then we rented a car to go into Canada to visit my son in Winnipeg).

I am her caregiver. I moved back to Arkansas almost 7 years ago to help her after her back surgery. She has slowly given her daily responsibilities to me. I don't mind doing it but I hate to see her giving up and spending her last year's just existing instead of living.

Sorry for the rant. Am thinking of trying to find an accupuncturist nearby. I know that helped many years ago So maybe she would go into that with a positive attitude. :(
