I took gabapentin/Neurontin as a last resort before finding alternative options. It definitely helped my nerve pain, but made me really spacey. I went up to 900 mg 3 times daily, found other options. My neurologist noticed gabapentin want doing much anymore, so I tried pregabalin/Lyrica. Now, I don't take either.
I'm glad you're feeling better, just make sure to watch for side effects. I didn't realize how spacey/sleepy/ADD I got until I switched between several meds.
I take 300 mg twice a day! Without it, all I can do is lay in bed. Whenever I first started it three years ago, it took an entire month and absolutely horrible headaches for it to work, but once it did, it was like a miracle drug. And as a now 18 year old that is headed to college, I thank God that my neurologist put me on gabapentin! Otherwise, I wouldn't be able to do anything in college, let alone be able to focus. It is a miracle drug, though it has different effects on each person.
I started Gabapentin about two months ago for fibromyalgia pain, anxiety and to help with sleep. I started at 300 mg 3x per day and am up to 600 mg 3x per day. I can honestly say I haven't really noticed it helping any of the three issues. I know I can work up to 2600mg per day but was hoping that wouldn't be the case. Not giving up hope yet though!
I have been on Gabapentin for 3 months. 1200mg. Pain stayed the same and I was a bit spacey during the day. I can say I went from 1-2 hours sleep per night, to sometimes 6 hours. So it seemed like a mini miracle sleeping wise. I have come off Gabapentin now and about to try Pregabalin..if this doesn't work then I would go back to Gabapentin purely to help me sleep.
Hi I'm new to this group, glad I have found it now. I take Gabaphentin 300mgs twice a day as it does make me sleepy but on Wednesday this week at my pain clinic I was told by the nurse specialist that I need to increase it. She said the highest dose you should take is 1300mgs per day, I don't think I would be awake if I took that much. I tried Pregablin but got really spaced out after taking the second dose I didn't wake up for 19 hours so I won't take that again. My friend took it and was having hallucinations.
I found Gabapentin really helped but I had to stop taking it because I literally couldn't stay awake. They kept increasing the dosage and it got to the point I just couldn't function. But it was good and I felt slightly better pain wise.
