I've been off my GERD meds nearly 2 weeks and the acid reflux is in overkill mode. It's burning from my stomach to the back of my tongue. I'll be glad when this procedure is over and I can go back on my meds next Monday. They're doing the EGD this Friday, to put device at the bottom of my esophagus, which will measure the acid reflux and hiatal hernia activity. If anyone ever asks did the prilosec work for me... YES! I just didn't know how well until now. Literally my throat feels like burning liquid, and at times I feel nauseous. I have to wonder how much more damage is going to show in the Barrett's Esophagus area.

Wishing everyone has a good day. Hugs & prayers for all your cares to be light and easy this week! 🙂💕🙏🌼

So sorry you can't have yr meds right now. I truly know what you are going through. I have not been able to take the one that really works for me since middle of Feb. insurance is flipping me off, Pardon my crudity. It has been a miserable Few months. They wield so much power over how I manage my pain! Anyway, Flappys good luck with your procedure.

Flappy, I am sorry that you are having such a hard time. I went through a period like that when my esophagus was so inflamed, I was afraid to sleep because it was like my stomach was a pure burning acid and I felt like I was going to throw it up. But after several months and changing my diet, it passed. I don't think my diet was the cause. I got treated for an ulcer. So I really feel for you. I hope they can get this thing over with and get you back on your meds. In the meantime, know that you are being thought of. I am sorry I have been gone for so long. But I have thought about you much.

Silvrrry, insurance is not what it use to be, for sure. I opted your doctor will go to bat for you to get the meds approved.

Profiler, I wish I could throw up! It might actually get rid of some of the acid. Doc says we need these test results for insurance approval to repair the hernia, which is causing the GERD, which is causing the Barrett's esophagus. Lol typical! I just hope all this burning isn't worsening the damage of Barrett's already. I have missed seeing you, wondering if you're alright. Hugs to all!

Flappsy, my friend, I am sorry you're dealing with such bad reflux. Definitely not fun. I had it so bad before I found a medication that worked for me that I would fall asleep and it would come all the way up and out my nose and mouth and I would aspirate it. Twice I had aspiration pneumonia and have permanent scarring in my lungs from the acid burns. I was to the gastro today and while I was there he said I need to have the endoscopy done again to make sure my Esophogus hasn't gotten any worse. (The last one I was one stage below Barrett's Esophogus). I pray that the test goes smoothly and you don't suffer discomfort (you already have enough of that). Sending you lots of love, great big {{{Hugs}}} and prayers for a speedy recovery and a good result on the findings.💕🙏🏻🌻😊

Thanks AlwayZ. I think I may have had a blockage because I was barely having BMs for two weeks, due to 2 docs telling me to reduce my water intake (>120 oz/day). To heck with that! After suffering from IBS-C and all it's wonderful bloat, pain, and such, I went back to drinking normally. My BMs are more normal now. Because I don't have the constant abdominal pressure on my stomach, the acid has reduced some, making it more bearable. Tomorrow is the EGD, then I have to eat my normal diet until Monday, so the device implant can read the acid & hernia activity. At some point in the near future doc plans to repair the hernia, which should reduce the GERD, and reduce Barrett's esophagus damage. If I'm lucky I won't even need daily gerd meds them! I'm just hoping I can enjoy mother's day breakfast with my kids & grandkids. They're coming over to cook me breakfast: pancakes with AOL the sides! I opted everyone has a good day today! Hugs & prayers for all. 🙂💕🙏🌼

Do you sleep with a mattress tilter? I have a problem with my vocal chords effected by Gerd and I sleep/breathe so much better since I invested in one! Obviously it only helps at night but it could be a way to find a little relief whilst you can't take the tablets. Sending hugs 💞

Flappsy, you're going to have a wonderful breakfast on Mother's Day and it's going to be a good day for you and all the Moms!!💕

I had to change the foods I eat. Prillisac and and some of the other GERD meds messed up my kidneys and had to come off and the others made my Bone pain worse and also made my muscles hurt.
Since changing when and what I eat it has helped some. Plus elevating the head of my bed. Have to prop lower legs up sometimes to get the swelling out of them.

GERD can cause pneumonia when it goes into the lungs while sleeping.

Woo hoo the battery on the device died at 8:35 am today. I took it off and took my prilosec. Unfortunately I've had so much acid the last 48 hours, along with extreme IBS-C... It's been a miserable afternoon! Breakfast was good with my family, but I ate very little. I purchased a wedge pillow just for GERD sufferers. It's wider and much longer, elevating the body from the hips to the head. It worked very well last night. But as soon as breakfast was done the acid started. As much as I hate it, I'm thinking I may need an enemas or the ER if I get worse. I've only been this sick twice before and it is misery. Ugh!
