Nick so sorry to hear this has happened to you! My first suggestion is calm down which I know is easier said than done, but stressing about it really isn't going to help you out in any way. I really don't know if your surgeon will put u to sleep or not but I am sure they will be happy to answer any questions you have when you get to the hospital for surgery in the morning. I am sure you are going to be in very capable hands so try to relax. Gentle hugs and wishes for a speedy recovery!

Nikkib.... I am sorry about your accident. I had surgery like that on my shoulder. They gave me awesome sedation, nerve blocked the area and cut the bones, put In screws, wires, etc to hold it together. I've been operated on 28 times in the last 22 years. I have to say, I'd rather surgery that way than to be put out. Then you don't have an endotracheal tube, you don't get a sore throat from it, you wake up faster, the nerve block lasts hours and wears off gradually this way, the pain doesn't come for a long time. I hope it goes well. Either way they do it, you'll be taken care of. If they put you out, you'll get a great sleep, sleep the rest of the day after they wake you and you will be on strong pain meds. Best of luck and try not to be frightened. I know surgery is scary and even after all I've had, I still get scared, it's natural. Bring someone with you that can keep you company and distract you until you go to the OR. Just before they take you in, they will give you sedation in your IV and you won't care what they do to you. Keep us posted on your progress... I'll say a prayer for speedy and total recovery.

Nikki welcome I had two hematoma removed from my wrist they gave me a nerve block in my armpit, my hub and got his hand crushed in 01 they gave him a nerve block in his armpit and put two pins in his hand. Try to not worry I know that's easier said than done. I agree with Always about bringing someone with you. They will give you something to relax you and you will sleep thru. You will have strong pain meds to take for the pain. Don't wait to take it until you are hurting really bad take it when the pain starts. Will be keeping you in my prayers and thought keep us in the loop.

Nikkib, I'm sorry to hear about your accident & injury. Its very easy to say not to worry. To do so you have to focus on trusting your physician & staff. They've had plenty of experience. I'm almost certain they will sedate you and do a nerve block. They did that for my dad on his shoulder & knee replacements, and on my sister's knee replacement. You want the sedation & nerve block because it will be easier on you psychologically if you dont hear whats going on around you and you'll feel less pain when you awake. I am praying for you to have a complete and speedy recovery. πŸŒΈπŸ™
