Have you ever? πŸ•

I was very freaked out Saturday by a third & worse episode my dog had, which my hubby described as "mad-cow thrashing about" to our vet. Have any of you ever witnessed such or had experience with the following in pets...

Last Saturday my furbaby started coughing, then suddenly his front legs collapsed, followed by his rear end, then he was flopping & rolling on the floor uncontrollably, coughing the whole time. My hubby jerked him up & stuck his finger down his throat thinking he was choking. My baby had no control on any movement for a good minute or two! Then it suddenly stopped and he stood up shakily then walked over to us just fine.

Appx 4-6 mo ago: He started coughing after he ran into my toes (striking his chest...hw was zooming around) and suddenly he was coughing & hacking, and his legs flopped straight out, like a gingerbread cookie, and he couldn't get his legs under him to stand; he was splayed out flat 1-2 minutes. And like Saturday he got back up just fine.

Appx 2-2 yr ago: I remember him being stunned the first time he tried to jump on the couch & hit in his neck area instead. He just laid flat for 30 seconds or more, coughed a few times, then wobbled standing up, then he was fine.

The vet checked him this morning but wants him back on empty stomach tomorrow for sedation and xray of neck. Thinks the trachea is collapsing & compressing vegal/Vegas nerve, but checking discs just in case. I don't want it to be a disc compressing a nerve, but it's better than if it turns out to be Laryngeal Paralysis. That could definitely progresses to awful true leg paralysis, lung & heart conditions.

Thanks Shore. I hope everything gets sorted out for your injx soon. It will all go well for you! πŸ™πŸ˜Š

The good news is my dog's cervical discs are perfect (beautifully perfect...wish mine were). It's either just coughing/choking in trachea triggering the Vagal nerve, possible seizure (Petit mal), or it's the Laryngeal Paralysis. His vet said let's just monitor & if increases in number of episodes &/or intensity we will take him to Athens for testing on the larynx. Laryngeal paralysis can cause major heart & lung issues, and sometimes loss of limb use. I'm praying that not what is happening!

Here's hoping everyone has a good day today, with hugs love & prayers! πŸ™‚β€πŸ™πŸŒΌ

Wow FlappysLady I’m so sorry to hear of your furbaby’s health issues. Could it be Laryngeal Spasms? Maybe coughing so hard makes the Larynx go into spasms constricting it and making your dog go limp ( does he pass out?)Then he recovers after his muscles on his throat relax. Frightening I’m sure to watch. I’m hoping your fur baby is doing better and that it’s something treatable. Best of wishes🐢

Since were talking about our fur babies. I’ve noticed 2 raised hard balls on my fur baby. One on her neck and just this week noticed a new one on her paw. It’s pink not bleeding. She licks it. Moderate in size about end of pencil eraser ✏️Should I take her to a vet or is this something benign in nature. What do you think?

@Painwarrior, thanks! It's not causing him to pass out, and the vet thought spasms & passing out. But now he just wants us to watch him, and try to catch a video of him if possible. It is scary & I'm so glad my hubby was here with me! I had a car one time that lived eating spotted salamanders, and then she would trip out walking into stuff. We didn't know why at first and ran her to the vet, who after the exam and questions diagnosed her as having salamader-LSD issues! He was so funny! As for your pup's pink balls, they sound similar to my dog's black ones: eraser sized, hard ball knots. We had one biopsied because he started getting them all over. His are similar to sebaceous cysts the vet said, but told us to watch for any irregularities shape or size growth. You might have a vet check it just to be sure, especially since your furbaby licks them (mine doesn't), better than worrying. Hopefully her's are just like my furbaby's knots.

@jojokangaroo4, we had X-rays done and his spine looks perfect from all angles, neck to tail. I wish mine looked so healthy! We are suppose to watch him and try to video an episode when it happens again ; they aren't frequent, only 3 in 2 years. When it does we will also be referred to a vetrinary hospital for further testing, which I'm sure may involve an MRI and possibly the brain. Or vet also said to try and keep him from getting choked on anything, so we the out his old string this and antler chews and he got all new stuff to play and chew on. Lol spoiled baby! Surpringly he has learned to wait for us to lower our foot rest in our recliners before he jumps up (he's part poodle but he can't jump, and he's hit right across his chest a couple of times, and his throat the one time he had his first episode). I'm watching him like a hawk because I don't want him to have another attack.
Hugs love & prayers everyone has a good weekend!πŸ™‚β€πŸ™πŸŒΌ
