I was very freaked out Saturday by a third & worse episode my dog had, which my hubby described as "mad-cow thrashing about" to our vet. Have any of you ever witnessed such or had experience with the following in pets...
Last Saturday my furbaby started coughing, then suddenly his front legs collapsed, followed by his rear end, then he was flopping & rolling on the floor uncontrollably, coughing the whole time. My hubby jerked him up & stuck his finger down his throat thinking he was choking. My baby had no control on any movement for a good minute or two! Then it suddenly stopped and he stood up shakily then walked over to us just fine.
Appx 4-6 mo ago: He started coughing after he ran into my toes (striking his chest...hw was zooming around) and suddenly he was coughing & hacking, and his legs flopped straight out, like a gingerbread cookie, and he couldn't get his legs under him to stand; he was splayed out flat 1-2 minutes. And like Saturday he got back up just fine.
Appx 2-2 yr ago: I remember him being stunned the first time he tried to jump on the couch & hit in his neck area instead. He just laid flat for 30 seconds or more, coughed a few times, then wobbled standing up, then he was fine.
The vet checked him this morning but wants him back on empty stomach tomorrow for sedation and xray of neck. Thinks the trachea is collapsing & compressing vegal/Vegas nerve, but checking discs just in case. I don't want it to be a disc compressing a nerve, but it's better than if it turns out to be Laryngeal Paralysis. That could definitely progresses to awful true leg paralysis, lung & heart conditions.
